My '17 displays the outside temperature in 2 places- one at the top of the touch screen, and also on the small display right above the odometer.
Is there a way to configure this thing so the dash display will show the engine temperature?

No, if you want precise coolant temp or boost temp you'll need an OBD2 gauge like access port or an app like Torquepro

I had to get a rental while my ST was getting body work done, and the only vehicle available that night was a Dodge Grand Caravan. In the gauge cluster, I could access a whole bunch of sensor readings such as: transmission oil temperature, tire pressure readings, engine oil temperature, coolant temperature, and oil pressure just to name a few. I must say I was astounded that a minivan had more technical information available in the gauge cluster than my ST.

It’s easy to forget sometimes that the FiST is, at its core, still a cheap Ford Fiesta when it comes to onboard electronics and parts. So, not actually that surprising that it lacks features that minivans or an even a Focus that cost $10k+ more than a base Fiesta.

Then again, that simplicity can also be part of the appeal.
