According to the Top Tier website-
"TOP TIER™+ is an evolution of the TOP TIER™ standard, extending the benefits of TOP TIER™ to today’s Gasoline Direct Injection engines, while retaining the existing benefits for traditional engines. TOP TIER™+ is rolling out to stations across the US. Many fuel brands are in the process of converting their stations.
We are pleased to share that bp and Amoco gasolines are certified TOP TIER+. bp and Amoco’s long-standing Invigorate® additive underwent the testing for the Plus gasoline standard and passed, extending the benefits of TOP TIER™ to more vehicles than ever before...
Currently, Amoco, bp and Costco are the national brands that have announced they are TOP TIER™+."

For those of you who aren't familiar with it, Top Tier gas is supposedly a higher quality of gas and gas additives which was started by a group of manufacturers including Ford who found that the standard level of gas was insufficient and was causing problems. Top Tier+ is a new standard which is designed specifically for gasoline direct engines like ours.
AAA did a study comparing base level gas with the older Top Tier standard before the new Top Tier+ standard came in, and found significant benefits in the gas-

I know some people think it's just marketing, but I don't think it is, it looks like there's a decently rigorous certification process. Also, the stations that are Top Tier around me that I go to are BP or Exxon, and I've never seen any sign or other marketing touting that it was Top Tier. If it was just marketing, then why aren't they marketing it? It may be on their website, but who reads a fuel company website before going to their gas station?
I figured it certainly doesn't hurt to use Top Tier gas and it probably helps, so it's worth it to me. I also haven't found it to be significantly more expensive, and in some cases it's less expensive than gas without the certification.

My closest and cheapest gas station is Costco. We stay winning.
Good news for you.
I'm not a Costco member, I'm just curious, how much cheaper is the gas generally per gallon for premium?

I prefer Conoco/Phillips stations because they are Top Tier and they use only US-produced oil. And they are US-owned. They have Top Tier decals on the pumps and there's a video explaining Top Tier and how their gas exceeds the Top Tier standard by a significant amount (complete with bar graphs and charts!) that plays on the pump while you are using it.

So keep in mind I'm in Socal so prices will vary depending on taxes/fees/carwash/etc but:

Costco La Mesa: (Prices as of 6/12/26 5 minutes ago)
Regular: $5.29
Premium: $5.55

Chevron 2 minutes away from Costco:
Regular: $5.79
Premium: $6.19

Shell 5 minutes from Costco:
Regular: $5.79
Premium: $6.29

Also, I have the Costco credit card which adds 5% Cashback for gas. It's not much but given the current cost of fuel and my daily commute to work (35 miles R/T) it adds up. 15mpg in the Corvette, 24-28ish in the Fiesta (When the fiesta runs). If you go during the day the lines at the Costco gas pumps invalidate the savings ($10-15 per fill at current prices) but my Costco gas station is open until 11PM and there's never a wait past 9PM.
