I will prolly do a CC as im about 2k miles. Not exactly sire if that line is gonna get it all of not. If i pull the return line at the TB and its oily, it will get a CC.

Pull off the PCV feeder tube to the intake manifold if you dare lol. Oily as a mofo.

The final piece of fuel hose arrived today so I got mine done.

I ordered another PCV pipe from an ebay seller as it worked out cheaper to my country (Part KCV-279)



I was able to use a mounting hole below my SRI, near the window washer reservoir.



Here's how it ended up. I'm using a check valve to prevent boost going to the can.
One minor thing is that the engine cover doesnt want to go back on.
I honestly dont really care about this as I prefer to look after the intake valves.
That said I'll probably modify the fitting to the intake manifold so the pipe sits more flush with the engine.



*EDIT* I ended up modifying the fitting and can now put the engine cover on with no problems.

OK, now I have a question for those of you that have decided to use a check valve.

Sense the PCV valve is basically a check valve itself.
Why would need a second one if they worked in the same direction?
If they were in opposite directions the then the Positive Crankcase Ventilation system would be shut down.
This would leave gas vapor in the crankcase causing an explosive situation.
The PCV valve is also an air source calibrated into the ECM so adding any restriction would cause a slightly richer condition.
Any good Catch Can would not be seen as a restriction to the PCV system.

What am I missing?

On my can I have slip on hoses with NO clamps and nothing has come loose.
Even if a hose did come off it would not stop the car from running as well as be an easy fix.

I put in the check valve as a precaution to not pressurize the OCC. This is the exact setup that is recommended for a Mazdaspeed 3 http://damondmotorsports.com/collections/occ which is where I originally used the can. When using the can and monitoring on the Mazda (with a Cobb AP) I never noticed any I'll effects like running rich from it. The check valve blocks boost from the manifold so is like Manifold<Check Valve<OCC<PCV ie it can only flow when valve cover is more positive pressure than intake manifold otherwise both valves block. When the system's in boost it is my understanding that'd be where the other valve cover pipe comes into play that necks back to the intake.

As for the hose clips that's a preference thing. Anywhere seeing boost pressure I personally would just to prevent boost leaks.

Basically what MOFiST said. The oil separator I am using is intended for a diesel engine and I modified it to suite. It is not designed for positive pressure hence the check valve, opens under very low manifold vacuum, about -1psi. The possibility of causing a restriction was the reason I used hoses that matched the OEM size and a Large can.

That may be the answer I was seeking.
I too used a can I just had laying around, however mine was designed for a boosted system and I couldn't see why an additional check valve would be needed.

I did a little more reading up on this and I may not need a check valve after all. The check valve was included in the kit I purchased in the link above and was a precaution for my old Mazdaspeed 3's notoriously leaky PCV. Apparently my can would be fine up to 30PSI boost pressure. I'm going to remove my check valve as it's definitely another restriction. Thanks for making me think about this more Dave :)

I am not trying to create civil unrest.
I am just trying to figure out why we do things.
Heaven knows that I am not afraid to try new things.
Just trying to find out why.

I have tried many things on many cars, some made sense and some didn't.
I just couldn't see the need for two check valves.
The catch can should just look like a piece of hose to the system.
As long as it can hold the same pressures there should never be any problems.

I don't run a check valve either. But I run a VTA setup. TBH, D1Jl's logic makes more sense. Blowing up catch can seems highly illogical. I'm also considering running closed loop instead of VTA soon.

What I see as odd, is tiring to do an induction cleaning on a Direct Injection engine.
You can't clean the back of the valves anyway, at best all you can clean is the injectors.
Use of a top tier fuel will do that for you.

Besides, breaking off little pieces of pre-mature diamonds and throwing then down the throat of your turbo can't be a good thing.

Remember too that this another reason to use a GOOD air filter.
High performance filters do pass air more quickly but in so doing they pass larger pieces of dirt.

My brother has been hyper miling his Golf GTI for many thousands of miles. He recently was charged $1500 to clean the valves. I believe they actually remove the head and disassemble the valvetrain to do the cleaning. Holy crap.

Just watched the first video MOFiST posted. Crap! I wonder if using the stock paper filter, 93 octane detergent fuel and reving regularly to the 6000s will help.

So after watching both videos I'm now very interested in a catch can but I can totally see Ford freaking out and causing warranty claim problems when they see it. I think we're screwed either way.

I think if your gonna trade after 3 years then I wouldn't worry.
I plan on keeping this car for a while longer than that.
For me I have ramps and the reason I bought the extra PCV pipe is so I can swap out.
It'll probably take me 5 minutes to do that and another 10 or so to put the OEM intake back in place. Then they wouldn't know either way.
This problem is not new.
They know for most it won't be an issue until AFTER warranty runs out.

catch can is the way to go, ford should embrace those of us that do it well. also when will the industry just admit that not all mods harm the system, if their (engineers) systems were perfect we wouldnt have to create mods to fix/prevent issues that are common.

It would be amazeballs if there was an official Ford recall that added a catch can or separator. I'm not holding my breath though.
