215s on a Mk8 ST?

Hi everyone, I am in Australia, and Michelin has no stock of 205 40 R18s in Pilot Sport 4 or 5 in the country, Michelin told me they wouldn't have any for at least 4-5 months, if they get them at all, in fact several tyre stores told me it would be impossible to find any manufacturer with that dimension. Eek!

Has anyone had experience, or could give advice on, whether it would it be ok to put 215 40 R18 on the stock rims that come with the Mk 8 ST? Would it be ok safety/handling wise? Otherwise, would it be better to change the wheels to a 17 inch to find a tyre that would fit?

I want to tread carefully (boom tish)

It will be fine* As long as the aspect ratio stays the same you will not lose the crisp turn in. The tire will be slightly wider and look wider/meatier* I run a 215/40/17 on my Mk7 here stateside and wouldn't go back to the 205/40r17. [driving]

With a change that minimal there will be no safety/handling issues. If the Mk 8 has as tiny wheelwells as the Mk 7, the primary issue with going larger will be whether the tire rubs. But going up only 10 mm it isn't going to.

The Mk 8 comes with 18s.
Yes, but hopefully we can guess that the wheel well room equivalency is the same, i.e.; if we can go up to a 215/40-17 with no rubbing (at least at factory ride height, but many on here also claim when lowered, rationally), then he can go to a 215/40-18 with the same results.

In our case at least, the O.D./height of the wider tire only averages ~0.5" taller than the OEM tire's height.

I believe that they kept the wheel width at 7.0" for the Mk8s, or did they increase it to 7.5"??
