As the title states, the shifter assembly feels loose, like wobbly. Much more than stock or close to normal.

I do have a mountune short shifter which should help the shift feel more crisp, but the assembly feels so loose that there is a major delay in every shift.

The short shifter is on tight with not much play in the engine bay, but in the cabin in what seems to be inside the shifter assembly?
There’s a whole broadway musical going on, dancing all over the place.
Any help, thoughts, advice, is all welcomed.

Thank you for taking time to read this!

When I did my Mountune short shifter I also did the Whoosh cable bushings.
I never changed the stock bushings. I've never had a problem, but I'm probably nicer to my drivetrain than others.

The OP needs to dig in and find the problem. Shifts are done by cables. They need to be correct.

I am now hesitant to do the adjustment due to finding that the clip is already partially broken… I am good with applying soft enough pressure to I feel I may be able to do it still, but if I can’t the car is paper weight lol
Until I get another cable at least.

what do yall think?
Go for it, or play it safe and buy the part just in case the clip fully breaks?

I hate that Ford makes you buy the whole cable assembly when their 10 cent plastic retainer clip is guaranteed to break at some point. I'd probably order the cable and then use best judgement to try monkeying with what's there. Maybe zip ties as a temporary solution?

Maybe search Ebay. I found this listing for used cables for $60, but if the new OEM is $80 or $90 probably better to buy new.

I also see some listings with replacement bushings along with the pivot end. Maybe the existing one screws off and you can put a new aftermarket end in place???

Thank you so much for the info and links bruv.
That ebay link for the used cable is the best find for the price, so I appreciate it.

will be ordering it, and having it handy as I attempt the cable adjustment when the part arrives.
Fingers crossed the clip works perfectly ok after the adjustment!

Shifter cable adjusted, but still feels wayyy loose.
The cables don’t seem to be what is loose.

everything up front seems tight as it should be, inside the shifter assembly feels wobbly and loose.
I see Ford made them with no screws to tighten or anything I clearly see… could the assembly somehow become weathered and loose over time and abuse to where it is not as secured to the cables as it originally was?
I have no idea, hence why I am here.

any more info or advice os always welcomed.
Thanks yall.
