Normal 'Edge' but not 'extended' or 'high mileage' or any of the other variants.
Main reason for changing isn't break down, but contamination.
Filter and additive package can only do so much.

So your saying go only for the Edge not the Extended Protection? Or you’ve only tried just the regular Edge?

Have not tried and have no intention on doing so.
If for some reason you're keeping your oil in extra long, it might make sense to try.
But it is better to simply change it.

I use Mobil 1 extended performance but don't use it to lengthen the oil change interval. The reason I use the extended performance is that it has a more robust additive package than the regular Mobil 1.
I change it once a year which for me is at about 3500 MI. I figure this gives me the best of both worlds, the more robust additive package of the extended performance version with the shorter oil change interval of the regular version.
I don't know for sure that it makes any difference but it only costs a couple dollars more than the basic version for a 5 quart jug at Walmart so I figure why not?
You could apply this same logic to the Castrol Edge which you're asking about.

That’s my thinking also, I also change the oil every 3500 miles.

I currently run Magnatec but thinking about switching to Edge EP.

This engine does dirty up some oil pretty quick. If you notice anything positive, feel free to follow up. Just keep in mind that there will be folks asking for oil analysis from labs such as Blackstone. You'll need baseline analysis from your current oil, as well as the new oil as it's going in, and that same oil coming out.
