Not sure I got the point of the article. Of course your avg mpg will improve if you reset it and cruise on the highway... It will also plummet if you reset it and take it to the track...
I have only had my car for like 5 months, but the average vehicle-estimated MPG is only about 1 MPG higher than the actual average MPG (calculated by gallons put into vehicle / miles traveled between fill ups). Not sure what this whole "26mpg max" thing is about...
Granted I have a 15', but I got 34MPG on my way to work which is a mix of highway/rush hour and city driving. I'm more than happy with my MPG. Just lay off the go fast pedal.
