Any troubleshooting tips for the symposer?

#1
at 1300 RPM I'm getting a buzz or what sounds like a loud exhaust sound. It happens either moving or at a standstill. I changed my COBB RMM back to original and still the same. I'm guessing maybe the symposer or one of the other engine mounts. I am not able to do much trouble shooting at my house so need to rely on Ford or a local garage. Any ideas?

Delete the symposer and see if it goes away. Cheap mod and gets rid of the annoying sound. Are you down on boost? If it was symposer, it’d likely be leaking boost.

That should be my first move but I have no loss of power and the mpg is still the same as when new. The local garage guy (worked for Ford) says that worn motor mounts cause a harmonic but which one and only around 1300-1400 rpm??? . Maybe my Ford dealer guys have more info.. Not very many ST's in this part of the world.. Thanks for your reply..

There's a small tube that runs from the firewall to the front of the engine near the intake manifold. That pipes the intake sounds to your dash. Simply unplug the hose and hop back in to see how or whether the sound changes.

Thanks Intuit for your reply. I didn't realize that that tube just pulled off. Anyway I did as you suggest and sound is the same so it looks like the symposer is not my problem.

If you want to eliminate the engine mount as a factor, simply put some wood on a jack plate, position it underneath some part of the engine/trans, and use it to unload the mounts. It may be difficult to completely unload all of them at the same time, but it does have the potential to let you know whether you're on the right track.

As far as it being an exhaust leak, does temporarily restricting the tail pipe have an impact on the sound?

OK, 2 more things to try. I watched a Youtube post of changing out the upper right engine mount and he used the floor jack to take weight off the engine and inspect the mount.
