Hi,

not sure if this is the correct place to post so please correct me if it is.

I have a 2014 Fiesta ST180. Car misfired and took it to my mechanic who discovered the liner was cracked in the bottom and and i had also blown a piston. Previous owner has remapped the car with out adding any supporting parts.

Saw this as an opportunity to do a full engine rebuild and add the necessary parts.

I purchased a brand new ST180 bare block from Pumaspeed, Mahle forged pistons, ZRP forged conrods, King Racing bearings, Rsport Pro400 intercooler, Airtec stage 3 induction kit, Rsport big boost pipes, Scorpion decat downpipe and an Airtec boost gauge kit. Currently in the process of looking for a new exhaust and turbo.

Anyway, on to the problem. My mechanic has sent all my parts to get machined. Encountered a problem with the brand new block. Took two people to split the block it was that tight and once torqued down the crankshaft will not turn at all (my crank is in good condition) He said bearing cage is distorted and nothing lines up correctly. The block had not came out of the box until it went to get machined.

I contacted Pumaspeed for an exchange or refund. Was told to send it back and they would investigate. I sent it back at a cost of £85 to myself.

Two weeks later, Tony (MD of Pumaspeed) sends me a video with a used crank and bearings turning completely fine inside the block. I have seen terrible reviews regarding Pumaspeed and how they never hold themselves accountable for anything. I asked if he could try it with king racing bearings as that’s the only thing different and he told me to send mine over and that I would have to pay for their machinists services investigating the part. I asked them to send me a full refund and take the cost of machinist off that and I’d look for an engine elsewhere as their customer service is scandalous. Tony then proceeded to try and push me to get their guy to build me a full short block and send all my parts over. I said no. I get a lifetime warranty from my guy and it’s on my doorstep. I also called their bluff and asked to send me the block as it is with the crank and bearings in and I would pay for them. I asked this two days ago and have not heard back from them. Something seems fishy about this company and I have a feeling they haven’t torqued the block down properly and left it loose which is why he crank is turning or they’ve used a completely different block and will send my faulty one back.

sorry for the long winded post. Has anyone had any experience with Pumaspeed? In particular Tony? Or been in a similar situation with them? Am I entitled to refund? I paid with PayPal so can open up a dispute with them. I’m even considering threatening them with court action.

Thank you

It sounds like you've answered your own questions: Yes, many people have had bad experiences with Pumaspeed. I would attempt to get a refund and file a PayPal dispute if they refuse. I don't know enough about the legal system where you are to have an opinion on the wisdom of taking them to court.
