And this is just my .02 but this is why a pro tune is better then an OTS tune. I like how Cobb gives the end user the flexibility to change tunes but at the cost of power being left on the table to make the tune safe for every one.

So after rearching half the night I flashed the stage 2 91 map. Yes, I have the stock FMIC. Guess what? Car ran just as cool (log intake temps) as it did with the Stg 1 map. Felt alot stronger, when I get home i will flash the Stg 2 93 map. I think the stock FMIC is up to the task as long as you arent tracking the car or doing back to back to back runs. However, I did quite a few runs and the car never went more then 10 degress above ambient on the intake temp.

You need to be monitoring CHARGE temps, not IAT's. The IAT isnt going to fluctuate because you do or don't have an intercooler.

Thanks for the info. However, Timing was never pulled on the car. I saw up to 9 degrees at one point. Awesome. Also, the boost doesnt increase when you go stage 2. The timng does...so im gonna log some some more when i get home to see the differences. However driving down the Hwy and doing a couple of pulls is most likely not gonna heat soak this IC.

Will do. The stock IC, while not huge, is more then enough for this small turbo in my mind.

For normal day-to-day driving with the occasional burst of speed I agree that the stock IC isn't going to be a huge problem. It becomes a problem for people that are using custom maps trying to get better power or those that want to enjoy a track session. Charge temps are consistently shown to be excessively-high in those situations and have also been shown to have a direct relationship with coolant temps.

Expanding on earlier post about stage 2 on stock fmic. Did some runs tonight logging the charge air temp with the stage 2 91 map. On the on ramp to 100 make believe per hr ;) the accessport never showed more then 96 degrees cat. Timing was in the 12's near the top and pulled hard. Ambient temp was 66 degrees. Did two back to back on hwy with same result. I believe that with cool weather stage 2 can be run on the stock fmic for burst of speed. Track days will need something larger or when 100 degree summer days return.

So you're saying that you were seeing 30 degrees over ambient?

Yes. However, I was seeing the same on the stock map and the stage 1 map...Cooled down relatively quickly afterwards.

More info today on the way to work. Ambient temp was 86 degrees low humidity. I did some 4th and 5th gear pulls and the stick Ic never went above 102 on the CAT's. As soon as I let off it quickly went back to 6-7 above ambient. The stock IC IS NOT BAD AT ALL!
