Here's what that code means:
OBD-II trouble code
U1007 indicates a "Lost Communication with Battery Monitoring Sensor (BMS)". The car’s main computer cannot read the sensor measuring battery voltage, current, and temperature, which disables auto start/stop and causes the alternator to run in a fixed, less efficient default charging mode.
Top fixes to check yourself:
- Corroded Terminals: Inspect the sensor attached to your battery (usually the negative terminal). Corrosion at the terminals can disrupt the signal.
- Blown Fuses: Locate the small inline fuse or wiring harness connected directly to the battery's terminal. A blown fuse or damaged wire is a very common cause of U1007.
- Sensor Replacement: If the wiring and fuses are intact, the sensor module itself may need to be replaced.
