Did I just break my CV Axle?

Today I got a sudden ticking noise coming from my front left wheel. The sound is there at any speed (and ticking frequency will speed up accordingly), even if I don't turn the wheel or when I put it in neutral and let the car just coast. It happened out of nowhere, so there weren't any issues in the last 6 months that I owned it. Is it common for them to instantly fail like this?

doesn't sound like an axle. sounds like you picked up a nail in the tire and its tap-tap-tapping.
