I've been reading all your guy's posts about "E" fuel tunes and all that stuff, and I was wondering what exactly do you have to do differently to run these tunes? Or do I just have to run that type of fuel?

Any help would be appreciated like always!!

Ethanol tunes require a custom tune to make the vehicle run right. Unless your super familiar with access port race and know what your doing tuning a car. I recommend a pro tune so you don't hurt your engine.

Oh okay. So you have to calucate the exact octane? Didn't know that. Might just go with the pro tune or e tune then.

The stoic fuel ratio under power has to be adjusted for the ethanol blend you plan to run. The timing should be modified to take advantage of the octane of ethanol and the boost can be raised as well. I wrote the tune on my car with some help, (you know who you are lol) but i don't recommend this for someone who's new to tuning or not in the automotive industry that doesn't understand exactly what they are doing. You can destroy your motor very quick if you modify the wrong parameters.

Gotta use a good tuner to run any ethonal blend. Matt Trout, who tunes for Panda did mine and it's amazing. Wakes the car up that's for sure. Not like it was ever asleep anyway.

Wish there were stations with ethanol in my state.. There's literally 1 or 2 in all of NJ, both about 1.5 hrs from me

If you are interested in an Ethanol Blend tune drop me a pm! I have been E-tuning more and more members on here lately, especially on E30 and they are all VERY impressed.

Have a look at my results posted on our blog: http://goo.gl/yagfKf

You can also check out our R&D thread here: http://www.fiestastforum.com/forum/...ct-(Tuning-Intake-Downpipe-Exhaust-Turbo-Kit)
I've seen your results and I'm very impressed. But I have no plans to go ethanol unfortunately. Too much stuff for me to learn. I will be getting an e tune from Randy though because I bought my AP from him.

Thanks for offer though!

If you're getting the tune from a pro-tuner then there's nothing to learn except for the math of mixing the fuel.

I have a pretty good self tuned stage 3 E40 tune right now, but I'll be going big turbo in the near future and im not dumb enough to try to self tune that. so when the time comes you are definitely going to be my guy. After seeing you work with robs car in person I'm very impressed.

That's what I'm talking about. No idea what I'm doing when it comes to stuff.

You can always search Google. I know a chart is posted on here somewhere I just don't recall where and it's buried pretty deep in my phone.

This works and I think there are smart phone apps or just save this to your favorites and use your web browser if you ever have a question. make notes at first till you get the hang of it.. to remember what is in the tank when you go to mix your next tank if you are at a odd gallonage

OH and make sure you test your E85 as it can vary from E70-E90 and still be sold as E85 at least in my state.. Cheap tester tube from hursst sold at summit or jegs for testing at the pump if you don't have a in car metering system

Thanks. So the existing % is how much ethanol would be in my 93 octane? I always put 93 in so I'd just have to figure out how much octane is in that?

Nevermind, just figured out it will be on the pump. Duh.

So after that just put in the amount of gallons for each, the ethanol blend and 93 octane gas?

Example; since our our tank is around 12 gallons, I put 3 gallons E85 and 9 gallons 93. It came out at E29. So will that be bad for an E30 tune??

Our tank is 12.4 gallons. So if you are adding e85 to a tank of e10 (regular 93 octane) you will need to add 3.4 gallons of e85 then fill up the remainder with the e10 (regular 93 octane). This will put you at 30.6% ethanol or e30. Then you will have to recalculate it for the next fill up because now your tank is full of e30.

Okay that makes sense but how do you keep track of ethanol blend after the first fill up?

I personally have an ECA, so it's much easier, lol. The best way to keep up with it is consistency. You will just be doing the calculations with e30 vice e10 after the first fill up with e30.

Some of us have installed a ethanol percentage gauge and sensor. This is really not necessary, however.

This is what I did to get started using e85:
1. I purchased the Holley "test tube", followed the directions and tested out the e85 I was planning on using. It turns out that Propel (the e85 I use) was actually e85. This is good to know because it affects your inputs to step 2. Follow the directions, add water, then e85, and shake the test tube. Then read out the percentage of ethanol.

2. I have an Android phone, so I downloaded two programs:
a. e85 mix calculator - This takes care of the math on how many gallons of 91 octane gas and how many gallons of e85 I need to use.
b. Propel app. This lets me know where all the Propel (e85) gas stations are located at.

In my case, the Arco gas and the Propel gas I use are both in Fullerton, CA, and are only 5 blocks apart.

3. You need to have a good idea how much fuel is in your tank. The way I do this is to fill up with 91 octane gas when the miles until empty says 60 or 40 or 30 or 20, and keep track of the number of gallons I needed to add to fill the tank. Subtract this from 12.4 ( number of gallons in a FiST), and you will know how many gallons you have in your tank.

Example: I filled up my ST when I had 28 miles until empty. I used 11.07 gallons, which means I had 12.4 - 11.1 gallon = 1.3 gallons in the tank. 40 Miles until empty usually means I have 2 gallons of gas in the tank.

Then you plug in the numbers into the e85 mix calculator and it tells you how many gallons of gas and how many gallons of e85 to put into your tank.

So, if I have 1 gallon of fuel in the tank, and its 91 octane, this means its 10% ethanol. Propel e85 has 85% ethanol, and my desired E% is 40.

According to the app, I put 6.84 gallons of Arco and 4.56 gallons of e85.

Then the ethanol percentage gauge confirms that I have e40.

The only thing that changes the second fill up is the E% in the tank. It goes up from e10 to e40.

Get the e85 mix calculator program and play with it, and it will become very clear what and how you use it.
