IYKYK, and you probably know where this is going.
As the title states, just installed Stratified's X4tra aux fuel kit and I'm trying to replace my stock 12 year old radiator. I ordered a Mishimoto unit, which comes with the "slimmer" fan shroud, but of course the throttle body and thus the charge pipe being pushed forward an inch or so by the aux fuel spacer has the cold side charge pipe contacting the fan shroud.
Someone out there has to be running an aftermarket radiator with this or Perron's aux fuel spacer. What did y'all find works? Here's what I've considered:
1. The real issue seems to be the fan itself; I can get the charge pipe to "miss" the shroud bracket itself, but the shroud spokes are spaced far enough apart that the pipe can get to the fan between them. The fan mounted on the shroud as-intended has the fan sitting about 3/4" off the radiator itself; seems like more clearance than it needs. I've considered putting some washers between the shroud and the fan so as to move the fan back a bit and thus give it less clearance from the radiator (who cares?) but more clearance from the charge pipe. This seems a little sketchy though.
2. I've considered buying a reducer such as this to angle the charge pipe toward the block a bit more; believe it or not there's some decent clearance to angle it since the throttle body is now further from the block. A mockup of this with an existing coupler seemed to suggest it *could* work, but really relies on the aftermarket motor mounts to do their job. The could potentially introduce a clearance issue with the TMAP sensor *harness* vs the trans, but lets be real that's already a known risk.
3. Return the Mishi radiator (it has some...quirks anyway, as nice as unit as it is) and try a Koyorad with the stock shroud. At 36mm its much more clearance-friendly than the Mishimoto, but with the factory shroud being "deeper" and wider than the Mishi shroud, I fear it make just eat up the difference the thinner Koyorad radiator offers.
4. Factory charge pipe? I really don't want to go this route as it undermines the purpose of other bottleneck eliminating mods up and downstream, but if it needs to be for the time being...
I'm certain many folks have found solutions. Please share!
