Did a quick search and didn't see anything about this. I happened upon this from a Ford Escape forum. There has to be a cheaper way to do this, but for those who want a kit it looks to be possible!

Wow that's really cool! I like the navigation option as well. It is pretty expensive though. I wouldnt mind getting the navigation add on for the sync 2 though.

I didn't read the article. But Sync3 gets you Apple Maps if you have an iPhone. I imagine Android's get to use Google Maps with their phones. No Nav needed any longer!

I wonder how difficult this is to install.

I would guess that it is a simple pull the cover on the Sync 2 off, remove a few screws, plug in the adapter that they include, put the new one in place, good to go. They offer just the adapters plug a Sync 3 unit in, if you have a source to get the Sync 3 unit cheaper.

Holy craptanola. It wouldn't cost anywhere near $1600 just to harvest the parts from a wrecked vehicle in the junkyards. Something tells me it wouldn't be plug & play though... likely some security/flashing/programming that is needed in addition to the hardware.

Consider this grossly cheaper yet, just as if not more functional option instead...

Not everyone want's to mount a gps unit onto their console and have a cable danging. There have been many people asking about a Sync 2 to Sync 3 upgrade in other threads. There is likely a much more cost effective way to do this, but without someone trying it how are we to know?

Here is a thread on a Fusion forum where someone took the time to do it without buying a kit:

Sync 3 does not allow audio to pass through from Google maps. At least on my 2016. Unless I am doing something wrong, if I am help me out, please!

So it doesn't give voice directions or are you trying to play music and have Google Maps open at the same time? I will try to help, have Sync 3 in my wife's Escape.

I usually have music playing and the audio from google maps is not passed through to the audio..I don't know if I have tried it without music playing.

You also cannot use voice commands on the phone when linked........I think when you don't purchase the factory Nav. they make sure you cannot use your phone's Nav. through the system, nor will it allow voice commands to the phone. Will not let you do a voice text without disconnecting. I assume this is all normal.

Will take a look this afternoon when I get home from work at the Sync 3 on my wife's car. It might be different though as my wife has navigation.

You can get NAV on your Sync2 for the price of a $20 Bluetooth adapter to talk to your computer with free FORScan software and the price of a map card. I have an A5 card I'll sell for $50 shipped USPS Priority Mail to any US state. It's cheaper than a Garmin and factory NAV.

I think that if it allowed a seamless interface who would buy the Ford Nav. System? Most people have it free on their phones. So I expected that, but not allowing voice texting is very annoying.

If you prefer to have an integrated solution, that's reason enough and perfectly fine.
Note that there are no "dangling" cables.

Check out the photos in the link and avoid assUmptions.
This is NOT for the type of people that like to stare at screens, of course.

Consider this grossly cheaper yet, just as if not more functional option instead...

I would prefer it to look and act like it came from the factory. That is a good solution though! Especially if you dont wanna drop the coin.

As for danging cables, I didn't make an "assumption" I did look at your photos. You obviously don't drive you car very hard either. Another concern with where you have that mounted would be punching the screen on it when shifting hard. This thread is to reference Sync 2 to Sync 3 conversion. Go create a thread to show off your "creation" if you are so proud of it.

I love how you state you're not making an ass-u-mption then state another ass-u-mption. It was merely a suggestion dude. Take it or leave it. No need to be that way at all. [grinking]
