I think I like these cars.

Hello! I haven't even test driven one yet, but everything I've watched and read makes me think this is my kind of car. I like hatchbacks, I like small cars, I like nimble cars, I like manual trannies, and I like a good amount of power. Seems the FiST has all of those features.

My only direct experience was riding in a FiST last year for a single autocross run. I thought it was pretty impressive.

I'll probably buy a used one, if I do get one. Are there any particular issues these cars have to check for when buying used?

I currently have an '07 Fit, '91 and '97 Miatas, and a 1923 Model T hot rod.

I'd definitely get rid of the Fit, and maybe one of the Miatas, since the FiST would probably end up being my autocross car.

I really like my Fit, it's a lot of fun to drive, very agile, and has surprisingly quick steering. The one thing I don't like about it is it lacks power. Seems the FiST is an even better handler, and has more than enough power. It's like a Fit Extra.

Anyway, I hope to test drive a FiST within the week, maybe even today, and I'll take it from there.

If you drive it, you'll buy it. I'm not aware of any particular issues with the car mechanically or physically to warn you away. The only issue i have is with the oil life reset, which won't. Keep track of it yourself and you're good. Oh, the stereo isn't the greatest. Sounds good when you're not moving, lacks bass when under way.

Some folks have had some transmission problems, including a high pitched whining sound under power. Some have had to have theirs replaced. Not sure how prevalent it is, but I would keep an ear out for that on the test drive. You can find more info around the forum I imagine.

Here's what I wrote about the FiST on Miata.net after my only ride, which was at an autocross a little over a year ago: "I've heard a lot of good things about the Fiesta ST, so I was pretty interested in getting a ride. I hate the look of the interior in photos, but in real life it wasn't as vomit inducing as I'd expected. I just really dislike the current styling trend of having edges and angles and layers everywhere. Anyway, the important thing is how it ran, and it ran well. Very well. Very strong acceleration, and very nimble, though it did seem to exhibit some of the quirks of a powerful fwd car, squirming around a bit in turns, and losing traction and understeering when the driver gave it a bit too much gas on exit. This car's times were faster than mine, but I think this driver is a better driver than me. The Fiesta ST is a car I'd definitely take a very close look at if I weren't too cheap to buy a new car. It's like my Fit with twice the hp. Seems like a great mix of practicality and yeehaw."

Hope I don't offend anyone with the comment about the interior. I'm more used to it now, especially since the style has become the current standard, and I see that look to one degree or another on just about every new car out there. I like a more straight forward and business-like interior, but I can't have everything the way I like it. [biggrin] BTW, I was driving my modded and mildly boosted Miata that day, and I'd say the FiST was at least it's equal, if not the better of the two cars. I think if the same driver drove both cars, the times would be very close, and the FiST I rode in was stock.

I've driven both the fit and the FiST and trust me the Ford is way funner than the Fit and the extra torque makes all the difference. I actually bought mine the same day I test drove it and I went in looking to buy the FoST. I've had mine for a year and have had no issues at all.

Welcome aboard!

I used to own a 2010 Fit Sport, so I can relate - the Fit, for what it is, is a great little handler. But it can barely get out of its own way! The FiST is in a league of its own. It's like if Honda made a Fit Type R. But BETTER.

And the only car I would trade my FiST in for today, besides another FiST, is a new Miata.

Keep us posted with what you end up with, and without pictures, it didn't happen! [:)]

Oh, the stereo isn't the greatest. Sounds good when you're not moving, lacks bass when under way.
set to "all speakers"
bass 90%
mid 75%
treble 25%

it'll sound sooo much better!

with each new tune flash, you'll have to tweak these sound settings again fyi
