Low MPG after rebuild

Hi,

just received my car back from a full engine rebuild. Not very clued up on engines so may seem like a silly question.

car hasn’t had any big runs and only done about 50 miles so far. My mpg is showing at 9.7mpg.

is this normal after a rebuild? Bearing in mind I do have upgraded parts such as Mahle forged pistons and ZRP conrods. King racing bearings. Airtec Stage 3 induction kit. Rsport pro400 intercooler and 3 inch downpipe. Planning on getting it stage 3 remapped after the break in period.

I know that fuel consumption will increase as the ECU and parts break in properly but surely 9.7mpg is extremely low?

any input would be very helpful.

thank you

Thanks for the input. MPG has increased the more I drive it however engine management light has just come on again. This will be it going back in for the 4th time for the engine light. No faulty sensors, new brake servo pipe. P0017 error code. He has already stripped engine down twice and timing is fine. He’s going to try and reboot the ECU and see if that gets rid of the code if that doesn’t work then looks like the VVT pulley will need replaced.
