My friend just got a new Focus ST...I wanted to see if I had enough to take him. Mods: MAPerformance intake, MAPerformance intercooler, AP, Tune+? (E30 coming soon)

What cars would be close in speed? Stock vs my mods?

Thanks!

I am/was stage 3 on E40 tune and I spanked my buddy's stock focus ST by bus lengths. I beat a Stage 1 focus livernoise tuned as well. At the quater like mark he was at my driver door. So we need a lot. But it can be done.

Stock Focus ST's can get in the 13's with a good driver so you're either going to need a lot of practice with all of the mods or you're going to need to race a bad FoST driver.

I don't like dig racing because I always feel like I'm abusing the car, and personally I much prefer the occasional "highway start". I am going to run my sales managers V8 charger sometime soon just to see what will happen, and we'll most likely do a run from 60 to 110.

My car was weighed last week and came in at 2563 lbs (I weigh 210 lbs), and I have some bolt on's plus am on an E30 tune. According to Virtual Dyno and assuming correct data/calculations, I am making 222 whp and 281 lbs wtrq.

I have run up against some FoST and even a few newer model WRX's, and I haven't been beaten too badly by any of them yet. I pulled on a few of these runs as well, and overall I am very impressed with where my car is right now with regards to power and performance.

PS: I do not condone street racing, and I live in a rural area south of Houston. There is a long straight highway nearby that you can see down for miles, and that has no trees next to it.

When I race, I only do it if there isn't any traffic at all. I refuse to race when there are other cars out, and it infuriates me to see people street racing in traffic and especially weaving in and out of traffic.

The below is for fun and makes assumptions about stock power levels based off internet searches.

My 2015 FiST - 2563 lbs / 222 whp = 11.54 lbs per HP

Stock 2015 FiST - 2742 lbs / 185 whp = 14.82 lbs per HP

Stock 2015 FoST - 3223 lbs / 235 whp = 13.71 lbs per HP

Stock 2015 WRX - 3267 lbs / 244 whp = 13.38 lbs per HP

Stock 2014 Charger V8 - 4160 lbs / 325 whp = 12.8 lbs per HP

As dyn085 said, we are outgunned in the dispacement category. That being said, I would NEVER run anyone from a start in this car. 1st and 2nd gear is nonsense. Our cars strength is from a roll, as is the FO, and we can both surprise some higher hp cars.

I have tons of drag racing experience, and the king of the strip is almost always a RWD auto car.

When I raced my '00 Camaro SS, I didn't have that much hp (420 to the wheels) but my car was set up right, wheels in the air at launch, and 1.46 60'. High 10 sec street car.

Its all about getting the power to the ground, which is not a forte of FWD.

My stage 3 FoST was a beast, easily able to smoke the 255 width tires I had on it from a 2nd gear roll.

The only quick answer to going faster was when I traded it for this:

It will be a driver's race. When I was at the track, stockish to mildly modded Focus were 13.9-14.4. Two bolt on ots tuned Fiestas were 14.3-14.5.

What did you take out of your to weigh in at 2,563?

^ Yep, and lighter weight wheels, tires, plus coil overs. Remove some here, add lighter weight components where you can there. I had the car weighed when it was being corner balanced after installing the new coilovers, and I was very surprised at the difference between claimed factory weight and what was measured at EVS Motors in Alief, Tx.

If you want a roll, go to a bakeryšŸ˜† Racing from a roll doesn't require too much skill, anyone can shift from 3rd to 4th. Racing from stop involves more driver skill and is less about the car when compared to a roll race.

All kidding aside good job on getting the weight down rhinopolis. If you don't mind me asking what are your thoughts after having the car corner balanced? Any input would be helpful! I have some BC coilovers on order and have been kicking around the idea of having it corner balanced at some point.

Lol, I happen to like bakeries and rolls! I haven't noticed any benefit from having the car corner balanced if I am being honest with you. I drive the car so infrequently and have yet to take it to a track, and perhaps if someone is an avid autoX'er or track enthusiast then they might be able to better evaluate the benefits of a corner balance?

Curious about your corner balance, @Rhinipolis, did it produce a measurable difference in height from ground to top of fenderwells? Side to side or front to back?

Theory says drivers side should be a little taller, but I have never done it.

I don't know Siestarider, it looks good to me and EVS is well respected so I trust whatever was done. I should probably have researched it a little more and dug in deeper, but I didn't. My apologies that I can't be of more help in answering your questions.

Dig is this new Millennial term that sort of bothers me. To mask their lack of overall driving experience they do what is relatively easy, especially for people who are under 30 and don't have much fear of dying.

Racing is dangerous at all but the lowest speeds and plenty of bad accidents have happen with "highway racing". The only thing that gets abused on a car from a "dig" is getting wheel hop which can be cured with a compromise. There is much more to going quick in a straight line that people typically are not interested in because it's beyond their basic understanding of a car and acceleration.

Also don't ride the clutch that wears it out faster.

Your stock Fiesta ST won't beat a stock Focus ST, I don't condone racing on public roads.

Don't think you can beat somebody from a roll only, plenty of ways to improve transient response without heavy modifications.
