Oil temperatures (Sensored Gauge vs AP)

For those of you who have installed a traditional oil temperature sensor in your sump or a sandwich plate, have you compared that with the temps provided by the AP?

I have not seen this addressed, and I think it's a good question. I would also be interested to know how accurate the oil temperatures provided by an AP are.

The sending unit in the pan would give you hot temps, years ago I ran a temp sensor on my coyote after the cooler by accident and the gauge gave me cold temps not actual hot temps. Even if your gauge is a few degrees off what does that matter? As long as water temp and oil temp move together you're ok.

I don't know about our vehicle specifically but, with some engine designs, the oil routes as follows:
* pan/sump to pump
* pump to filter
* filter to diverter
* diverter-primarily flows to engine
* diverter-partially to oil cooler
* oil cooler to engine

We also have a turbo that needs lubrication and cooling so I'm not sure where/how that ties in. I mean, is it 100% supplied from the oil cooler?

Our oil cooler is an oil/coolant heat exchanger. Some older designs run the oil out to a radiator as if it were automatic transmission fluid, but that is not ours.

The 1.6 put in the ST was made to be put in much bigger cars. It was most prominent in the Escape in the US.
Ford reduced the displacement to 1.5 to meet China's requirements, but they just tuned it to make the same power.
The FiST only came with the 1.6. If you bought one in China, you paid extra for it.
Of course, people who bought these cars new, knew what they were getting into.

These days, most cars are about having all the accoutrements. Most people see cars as conveyances. They don't see them as "fun."
