Question about the MBRP materials

I am looking to get an exhaust soon and I have a question for people who bought the different metals offered on the MBRP exhaust. I live in Northeast Ohio and we can get bad winters so I know the stainless will be the best bet, but I'm curious if I did get the aluminized steel how quickly would it get destroyed? I read somewhere the stock exhaust is aluminized but don't know how true that statement is. I'm just curious what the difference between the T409 and the T304 is if I do decide on stainless. Is the T304 worth the extra money over the T409? Thanks in advance!

this is right off the MBRP site

T304 stainless steel will not oxidize or rust, it can however develop a golden color when exposed to high heat over time. T409 stainless steel has a fair amount of ferrous material in it and can show surface oxidization after some time, especially when exposed to road salt. This can be prevented by applying a stainless steel cleanser using a scouring pad. If you are concerned about long-term appearance, you should get the T304 system. If you are more concerned about the price, but want something that is more durable than aluminized steel, then the T409 system would be the system of choice.

I've had the aluminized MBRP here in the St. Louis area, about to go into it's third winter. The pipes aren't pretty to look at, but it's been fine. Just gotta spray under the car to wash the salt off, and it'll be fine.

For a reference Stock exhaust systems are either aluminized or T409. So with any kind of reference figure an aluminized system depending on thickness should last around 7-10 years in a tough winter environment.

Should add like Hijinx stated, it is always good practice to wash your vehicle underneath after a rough winter. Rust does not occur under freezing temps though. The most important time is when it starts getting warmer, so no need to wash your car after every snow storm lol.

Sounds good, I'm just hesitant to get the aluminized because of the rust. Side question as for washing the underside when should that be done? Say when it's warm enough for the snow to melt? It's mainly the salt I'm worried about

That is a good time. When the weather starts staying in 40's.

I thought our factory systems were 409? [???:)]
Not sure but chances are that is correct. Most newer vehicles are 409.

I'll agree and disagree here. You're right... However many of us rust belt folks tuck our salt covered vehicles away in a toasty garage every night, so rust most definitely still occurs all winter. It's worth hitting a touchless car wash that has the under carriage spray once a week in the winter if you're parking in a heated garage.
