These engines are not that tough when boosted to much, way too many posts about pistons letting go and cracked cylinder towers. Yeah, they will make 300 HP for 20-30K miles but beyond that it's a total crap shoot.

I don't like the fact that the car in question had an aftermarket BOV. Come on, without a lot of other parts and work that BOV does nothing for the power. IMO it's a really safe bet that the previous owner had a higher capacity turbo on the car and was probably making 300 or more HP. I would not touch this car with a 10 foot pole. So, take it back.
If it turns out to simply be a bypass valve adapter, then it is just a noise maker and not indicative of a turbo swap. In fact, maybe the opposite. Someone who installed an aftermarket turbo probably would've put in a dv+ or something else.

I agree that the op should return the car. Hell, I'd sell him my '16 for $15k.

Price is fair, If the car were absolutely stock I could see better piece of mind. I would be suspicious given the boomba and the Cobb stickers plus what it was traded in for. This was purchased from a non Ford dealer as well I take it? That would make me a bit more wary too.
I am one for buying used cars private party or possibly CPO. Its really up to you though the question should be . How bad do I want this car? Are there no other ones around me I could see and check out. Are there no dealers around me that might have one odd ball at the back of the lot thats practically been forgotten about that is new old stock.
Investigate those options as it can strongly influence the decision to keep it or take it back and wait for one your more sure about .

๐Ÿ™„ whatever a cylinder tower is... Safe bet that this car just had a cobb ots tune and some cheap bolt ons till the owner had to get a bigger ride for their family. I doubt a majority of these cars have had the turbo stared at funny let alone actually touched.

Theres a higher chance the bov was installed to replace a failing factory part. Which we know is a common weak spot.
