Stuck license plate light housing

hey all,

I have a brand new 2019 i bought a week ago, im replacing all the lights with led bulbs and ran into a problem, the drivers side housing just falls right out but the passenger side is stuck and wont come out, its almost as if the wire is too short? or maybe just stuck? im afraid to keep pulling on it

any ideas? can i remove the plastic trim on the inside of the hatch to access the back of these light housings?

Yeah, it might be too short or maybe stuck. I'd try going through the back.
