Sad news for the egg, my engine started knocking this weekend when I was visiting a friend. We threw in some thicker oil just to get it home, because I didn't want to use one of my AAA tows 5 days into the year already.

The knock was basically only at idle till around 2k rpm so cruising on the freeway did not seem to be a problem. but the knocking was much louder at idle once I got home.

Time to look for a used low mile engine.

1.6 ecoboost swap time (was the motor the original NA 1.6?)

yup original NA 1.6. I bought the car with under 20k miles and the car was under 100 miles away from hitting 90k. So I got roughly 70k miles of abuse, I think I did somewhere around 35-40 track days in it.

No boost for me on this car, I want this car to remain sundae cup legal.

got some good mileage out of that motor. i don't understand the 1.6 NA, does it have different issues than the ecoboost/any fatal flaws?

From what we could tell at my friends house.
It looks like a PCV valve may have failed and started sucking a bunch of oil into the intake which then made the engine run dry.
I had just checked my oil on Friday night and this car never burns oil. When I was at my friends house, the tip of my dipstick was the only part that was wet and we popped off the intake and it was covered inside in hot oil. We threw some oil in the engine and cleaned up the intake, but the damage was already done at that point.

FWIW, I had a similar issue in my Mustang on track once. However since I check my oil in between sessions at the track. I caught the issue very early on with that one since I usually only do about 2-4 laps at a time in the mustang.

This is no good. Sorry for your loss but it seems like it was a trooper, plus these motors are cheap when mass produced attached to glass transmissions. I might have to be nicer to mine now too lol.

Minor update:
Local people on Facebook marketplace and OfferUp were not helpful in finding a good engine. Even when offering full asking price.
so I ordered an engine from eBay.
$900 shipped to my door for an LKQ pulled engine. With just 60k miles on it.

Haven't been on here in a while. Just wanted to update the thread with that the engine I got from eBay was a dud. It was all kinds of corroded. spent weeks going back and forth trying to get my money back and only got a partial amount of my money back. I then picked up another engine locally which I could not for the life of me figure out. Everything was timed correctly and etc. I had 4 different Ford tech friends come and check out the car. Including one tech from Ford of Upland which will happily work on modified fords and even offer track support. The car kept on burning sensors and throttle bodies up left and right. I tried to warranty as many parts as possible but I am over $3k deep into trying to fix this car. Which is basically more than it is worth. I am definitely not investing the time or money in chasing an electrical issue on such a car either. I am throwing in the towel and cutting my losses, all valuable wheels and parts have been removed from the car and that chassis is being picked up today. I will be selling my wheels and other parts, as well as all my misc. maintenance parts I had saved up.
I've been doing lots of track days and instructing in my Mustang in the meantime. I'm not sure how active I will be on here once my misc parts from this car are gone. If another good 5 spd se or a cheap FIST pops up locally I will happily jump on it. This chassis was so much fun to drive.
