i know and im sorry their has been so much discussion about tires but i cant get a definitive answer on tires that are still being made. i wanted mpss's or extreme contact dw's but their both discontinued and i was told to check te date on any dw's i find and im not gonna do that so their out as are the mpss's. contact dws tires sound nice but their all weather and i live in southern california so i can run summer rubber all year. ive heard "real" summer rubber only comes on summer tires and i want max grip. so mp4s tires? im going 205 45 17 on stock everything. i want good tire and was gonna get the dw's because tire rack rated them just a lil less harsh so that sounded good, but im looking for the best of the best dd summer tires, what do the new fiestas come with?

The factory SUMMER FiST donut was the Bridgestone Potenza RE050 (a VERY 'dated' 15 year old plus tire, despite how they are raved about on here for turn-in/grip), which even IF you can find them anywhere, with an acceptable build date, you WILL pay more for them than you will for those 205/45-17 Pilot Super Sports you so desire (which as of right this moment ARE still available in that size, according to Tire Rack, but who knows for how long [dunno]).

BTW; I cannot find anyone in this country who carries the Pilot Sport 4s, anywhere, in the 205/45-17 size, IF Michelin even makes them in that size, and then sells them elsewhere in the world.
WHERE are you seeing them for sale?? [???:)]

I am going by the TIRE RACK site.

Whether the Super Sports are, or are not, actually officially discontinued by Michelin, I do not know.
But Tire Rack still lists them as available, albeit with very limited supply, so they may just be sitting on a tiny bit of leftover/fully bought up stock of these, the last made by Michelin? [dunno]

pilot super sport and 4s are different tires. michelin's model naming scheme is the absolute worst and it's easy to confuse one model from the next. not sure why they keep making the mpss. seems like the 4s would be the updated version of that.

that being said I do like the 4s and have them on my camaro. grip very well on the street and im tempted to take them on the track.

thankyou, yes i agree. just give me a good, better, best. i have a tendency to overanalyze things and picking and finding the right tires has been a nightmare.

best daily driver tire, in socal right now to me, hands down are the falken 660's. Just expect to pay more in the long run as they wear fast. They are comfortable for a 200tw tire as a bonus. Well worth the premium over say some firehawk 500's. Now if I lived in a colder climate or maybe it rained a lot, then not quite sure.

now if you want really grippy 300tw tires, my guess is the 4S is hard to beat. Hope the 215/17 size fits.

^^^At 24.7" tall, one is REALLY pushing it with those tires, while only getting a 6.8" tread width anyway.

But yes, Michelin has performed some sort of chemical 'magic' with their compounding for these tires. [thumb]

Wondering how tall is too much? Sorry for derailing topic a bit, but hoping to throw on tires 24.8 eventually myself, very close to stock ride height but stiff springs and flares.

they are fine for the street being 200 treadwear tires. I use them on my civic hybrid and don't need to be heated up to grip safely on the street. Dunlop Z3 (have that on my fiesta now), Hankook RS4 and Bridgestone RE-71 are other examples of 200 tw tires one can drive on the street as well as on the track. As you say you want max grip, so I think it fits your criteria.

what I would recommend trying to avoid is 100 treadwear tires like this for example

almost wrecked my camaro on test drive as they were installed with these from the factory. Was taking a corner at 20 mph and mild throttle.

yeah i think you might have taken me a lil to seriously lol but perhaps. what's like an equivalent to a continental dw or mpss's your scaring me with your 17/45 comment i feel like ive seen many people say they run a 205 45 on their cars without issue. but i think you were referring to overall wheel Hight. those z3 look aggressive. i take it back i dont want an exreme performance tire, i dont want to be worried about goin out in the rain.

a superb and more affordable alternative option other than the MPSS, RT660/RT615K+ are the Federal595s - ive ran both Azenis but the 615k+ seems more puncture prone.

Run 215/40s instead on stock setup, you'll get more meat

example below (Federal595 RS-Pro wheel size 17x8.5): obviously im running wider wheels and im lowered quite a bit.

Con: they might be loud for others, but not annoying

What's your intended use for the car and what do you want out of the tire?

The 205/45 is likely to scrub, especially under full lock or compression.

Based on what you've indicated for use, I'd get stock size Indy's. You'll get the grip you want, it's a more cost effective tire, no fitment issues, and not an extreme performance tire. Otherwise, get the Dunlop's in. 215/40.
