Transmission howling noise during cruise?

Bought my ST used with about 12k miles on it. At cruise the trans howls quite loudly. Noise is gone when letting off of gas. Easy to recreate and it is speed sensitive. Does it going down hill also.

Here is the weird thing. Car was a Ford vehicle and came on an MSO still. When signing papers, dealer went over the warranty work they did. Transmission was installed. I thought it was a little weird, but still under factory warranty, so I didn't worry about it. Noise seems to be getting louder and bugs the crap out of me.

I have seen a few with the same issue and trans was replaced. Anyone run into this?

I notice my trans makes a little more noise now than when I first bought it. I'm gonna do what other guys have done pretty soon and put some motul 300 trans oil in mine. How loud is this howling? Could be a warranty issue as mine is only slight.

Have you been back to your dealer since the noise started? I want to loop your customer service manager in on this. Please send me a private message with your VIN, mileage, best daytime phone, full name, and dealer name/location.

In case you need it, here's the number for Ford Australia: +61(0) 386 133673.

I'm in the KC, MO area. I am an hour from the dealer and working at Ford KCAP. I don't have time to take it up there. Bob Sight Ford is the local dealer that I normally work with. I'll PM you.

Loud enough that you have to turn the stereo up 2-3 notches above normal to drown it out. With radio off, it is extremely annoying.

Thanks Meagan. I'm fairly sure the noise isn't abnormal. I'm of course listening closely.

According to some of the wise heads around here like Rodmoe yes it does. Google it as there is a few threads on the topic.

Mine developed that same issue but at around 10K miles. 2 dealers, several calls to Ford customer service, 28 days, 2 rental cars and a lot of frustration later I had a new transmission. I'm at 24K miles now and it makes a bit of noise on occasion but NOTHING like what it was.

Mine developed the same noise at around 200 miles. It ended up being a faulty bearing on the output shaft. The bearing was on backorder for months, so they ended up replacing my whole transmission at around 5000 miles.

The next full moon isn't until April 4th, let's see if we can stop the howling before then. ;) Have you had a chance to talk to your dealer about this?

My car did this and I had Ford replace my transmission at about 2250 miles. The new transmission has had over 6K miles on it and no noise. It was definitely an issue with the transmission.

Identical symptoms. On highway and in higher gears it whines loudly while maintaining speed or very slight acceleration. Deceleration in gear (and in neutral) is silent. Heavy acceleration the sound is likely there but the sound symposer drowns it out.

I'm just so sketched out by this. My dealer acknowledges the sound but has nothing to compare it to... And without a tsb issued they have no documentation to base off of. As of now I'm told to drive my car. Idk what to do.

I saw on a more recent post that they're working on the motor mount? I'll be happy to check out some additional assistance. Just PM me your VIN, mileage, best daytime phone, full name, and dealer name/location.

You have to take it to a dealer that has a new ST on the lot.. Or that's what they made me do.
