Pretty noisy, but not louder than the rpm’s of the motor. It sounds like it’s an input shaft. It scales with the rpm of the motor regardless of gear. High mileage transmission so I should just spend the money, pull it apart, put new bearings, synchros, and an LSD.
Just out of curiosity, are you running an aftermarket oil cooler? Reason I ask is my car developed a whining noise like you are describing after installing an aftermarket oil cooler. After doing some research, I found that the added lines are transmitting a resonating frequency from the oil pump into the chassis of the vehicle. This resulted in a whining sound that changes with rpm regardless of gear or if the clutch is engaged or not. Figured it was worth a mention. Mine sounds closer to the whine you would get from a stereo in an older car from the ignition system.
