This VR6 swapped, twin-turbo Golf is a supercar-beating wolf in sheep's clothing.

A Volkswagen Golf isn't what you think of when it comes to drag racing. In its stock form, the Golf is a great economy-focused, affordable family hatch. Its platform, however, is very accessible to tuners, giving them the ability to make some crazy builds. HGP, a German tuner specializing in VW Group cars, recently let its latest Mk.6 Golf R loose on a closed runway.

For this car, HGP ditched the two-liter turbocharged inline-four cylinder engine originally fitted, and dropped in a VR6 motor from a Passat R36. If that wasn't crazy enough, HGP slapped two turbos on the motor, and it's now making 800(!) horsepower. That's as much as a Chevrolet SS and a Cayman GT4 combined. Judging by the video, the Golf seems to retain its all-wheel-drive system and its DSG transmission, both of which now have to deal with almost three times the horsepower from the motor.

The car seems to be handling the power in stride, though, because it bangs out launches one after another. The family hatchback is filmed by the Gumbal Youtube channel wiping the floor with cars like a BMW M3, Porsche Boxster GTS, and even a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

We're not certain whether this vehicle was a customer car or HGP themselves doing a little showing off. Either way, showing up to a closed runway event in a VW Golf and beating out the fastest cars there must be fun.
