When you drive it off the lot... It really depends on which camp you're asking.

I gave mine 400 miles or so for clutch break in before I drove it hard. 8k miles and doing perfect!

Yep. New cars are broken-in from the get-go. Source: I work at a company that does specifically powertrain engineering for the automakers. Sometimes newer cars will recommend being light on the throttle for the first 1000 miles, but that is for safety concerns so people don't go killing themselves in a car they aren't familiar with yet.

The owner's manual for my FiST had something to the effect that no break-in period was required. I haven't redlined it yet but I certainly have been goosing it plenty and having fun from the get-go. I am just about 220 miles and already went to stage 1 this past weekend so I guess put me in the camp of just do it.

The manual says to try not to drive "continuously at the same speed," but instead to vary your speed frequently for the first 1000 miles to "give the moving parts a chance to break in." It also says no extensive break-in is needed.

A run up through the gears is fine. You want a load to seat the rings. Just no sustained high rpm I know manufacturing tolerances are more precise but I believe in bearing surfaces being burnished not smeared.

I believe the manual states 1,000 miles, so you're good. Let it rip!

A hard run on the dyno is the best way to break in an engine. As Quisp says it will help the rings get a good seat so you will not have oil blow by them in the future.

On supersport bikes ( old ama class for slightly modded ) about 20 pulls and horsepower gains would flatten out.

10k miles is really when the car breaks in. But pretty much drive it hard an enjoy it right of the show room floor

Good thing I've taken mine to the dyno twice in the first 2,000 miles.

36,000 miles and the only time my Fiesta ST has ever been to the shop was for the stupid HVAC flapper last month, which was annoying but nothing serious. I will be keeping this car for a LONG time, even after the lease ends in February. It will be my daily driver and I will get a new garage queen (2017 Camaro ZL1). I expect my car to last a long time without any major issues other than maintenance.
