Manifold heat shield necessary?

Is the heat shield a must have on after doing the Dp?

I kept mine off after installing downpipe. I intended to upgrade manifold/turbo eventually so that was my reason.

If you keep it off expect to see higher under hood temps and possibly higher intake temps depending on what intake you run

I'm in the same boat. Might go big turbo in 3 months. I was worried about melting something. If I don't need it I'll just keep it off and not worry about it

Just make sure no hoses or wires are laying on or close to the manifold and you will be ok. Zip ties are your friend lol

I ran mine for 6+ months with no heat shield at all. Then I did the heat wrap and def doesn't need a heat shield then...

I ran one week without shield, found too much intake air temp added to suit me, so put manifold shield back on.

The wrap idea sounds good. Or might just install the mani heat shield on will see

I've been running with out a heat shield since I installed my ATP kit 6 months ago. No problems or excessive heat noticed with my car.

I was literally just wondering this. I installed a Cobb downpipe last night and mangled the heat shields. So I'm hoping it's fine because that one is not going back on. Certainly not by my hand; I was getting pretty mad at it trying to remove it.

I just used electrical tape and taped the two O2 sensor wires to each other so the blue one is suspended. Plus I figure those cables have got to be designed to handle some pretty intense heat. How much do those heat shields really block once the car has been running for a while? I assume they heat soak eventually and do nothing.

I asked Cobb about the wrap and they advised against it. Their reasoning is that moisture can be trapped under the wrap and cause faster wear, and lowering underhood temps is not going to be noticeable to a daily driver like myself.

I too mangled the heat shield when I installed my Mountune DP a week or so ago. I hate leaving a project incomplete, so I found a local Ford dealer with one in stock, and for $25, I got a brand new heat shield. Leaving it on is going to reduce underhood temps, and help to ensure the longevity of the lines, hoses, connectors, etc. near the manifold not to mention probably help lower the temps in the turbo coolant lines. If you don't plan on keeping your car for too long, then it probably doesn't matter. Or, if you're always modding and checking that area of the car for problems, then you'll likely notice an issue before it becomes a problem. For me, I don't plan on touching that part of the car for a while, and having the heat shield in place is a bit of insurance.

I left that thing off after I went Cobb stage 3. I have noticed no ill effects. My intake temps are a couple degrees above ambient while moving. And I have seen my downpipe glow after I did some hard runs and checked back there. I too was concerned about something melting, but nothing ever did.

Sorry that was a typo, I meant to say the exact opposite and that the Cobb rep told me difference in underhood temps would not be noticeable to a daily driver. The benefit would be to someone really pushing it, such as in racing.
