Climate Control Heater Issue

Just a heads up guys, Ford released an updated SSM today saying that the problem can be solved by reprogramming the HVAC module to the latest calibration using Ford IDS software 99.02. Was going to do mine this afternoon but our computers were not wanting to update so I guess I'm stuck waiting till Monday to see if it actually takes care of it.
Does anyone have a copy of the SSM 45658 service message that can be posted here (or a link to the message). Thanks.

My car was built in July of 2016 and I have the same problem. I'll take it to the dealer but I'm surprised Ford hasn't fixed this problem on cars being built long after they were aware of the issue....

Couldn't be much more displeased right now. Had my car at the dealership all day for them to fix this issue, after explaining to them the problem more than three times (one over phone when I made the appointment, once when I dropped it off, and once again over the phone today when they couldn't replicated it by saying "when does it not blow hot? It's on max right now and hotter than hell in there") and trying to tell them about the SSM, they finally looked up the SSM and I guess installed the flash or whatever. Went to go pick the car up, after they fixed it and verified it was fixed supposedly. Drove off, tested it, and sure enough now the controls don't work correctly. When no setting for where the air blows (dash, feet, defrost) is selected, it's the only time it blows out of the dash. When I press any of the other three of those settings, it will only blow out of the defrost. For some reason, when I set it to max temperature it turns the A/C on? And they can't do anything about it for a week, even though it's more screwed up now than when I dropped it off.

And to top it off, they "washed" it for me. They sprayed off my car which was detailed prior to going in and it is shitty looking with water spots all over it. Thanks a lot.

Rant complete...anyone else have similar issues?

I have been avoiding bringing mine in for the same reason. I called Olathe Ford and spoke to a service advisor about the SSM 45658. I explained that I didn't want anything but the software install. He spent the whole conversation saying the issue would have to be diagnosed. I said can you just check and see if my car may need the SSM based on the build date.
He said he would take my information and call me back as he had customers, I thought that's what I was but I guess not!
It has been several days and no call. The weather here has been very warm so I haven't used the heater. If it's still an issue when the weather turns I'll find a different dealer to check it out....

I'm about to get my 2016 back. Called them and they told me they had to replace the climate control module after I told them about the update... we'll see what happens.

Don't go to Dick Edwards in Junction City...I felt like I inconvenienced them by asking them to work on my car. Not cool.

Dealership had it all day today...apparently something in the dash is stuck now? How that happens when they only did a computer reflash, I will not know...

Tearing the dash apart...apparently it takes all day to just do that. Really hope they get it back together correctly...

Hey I just registered so I can post in here. I had the same problem with mine, read this whole thread, took it to the dealership to have it reflashed, mentioned the SSM hoping that would help. They didn't take down the SSM number, stating that their tech would figure it out.

Luckily, they did get the right SSM number, but it didn't fix the problem. They kept the car over the weekend and took the dash apart today to replace the heater control module, which seems to have fixed it.

I had just the reflash earlier this year and seams to work ok as far as not blowing cold air unless you have it on hi but it's far from perfect. It tends to fog up the windscreen on wet days unless you keep the fan on full blast and on cooler days below 45 you have to set it to 76 to get any heat. My faith in ford is not there so I'll live with it.

I'm just not happy about them having to rip my dash apart to fix a hardware problem that wasn't there before I took it in for a computer reflash related update to the software.

Glad you got it fixed...hopefully that's what they do to mine.

A quick thank you to all the contributors to the thread. Since I got my car in September and hadn't really turned on the heater until today, I hadn't noticed the problem, which is exactly the same one described. I'm planning to call the dealer tomorrow; hoping it won't be a problem that my build date is literally one day after the range mentioned (12/16/2015).

I actually just registered to reply to this post. So I'm having the exact same issue with my week old Fiesta. I had them do the update, and now it's doing the same exact thing your car is doing. I haven't made the appointment to bring it in yet because I'm not sure what they're going to do with it. I'm almost 100% sure reflashing the module again or just replacing the module will solve this. I don't want them tearing apart my dashboard and replacing blend-doors when it's obvously a software based problem. Did you get your car back? What did they end up doing?

Took it to a different dealer last Friday, the 18th. They looked at it and verified the issue that day. Tore the dash apart Monday, found what was messed up, ordered the part. Still waiting on said part, so I will update you when it's all said and done. HVAC control unit I think.

Yeah that's what I figured it would be. Fortunately that's not too invasive. I'm hoping I'll have decent luck with my dealer as well. The thing that aggrivates me is that I've been working on cars for nearly my whole life, as an dealership tech (GM), and worked on commercial mobile refrigeration. This is my specialty. I know what's wrong with it but trying to navigate dealership red-tape is obnoxious, especially when you've been on the other side of it and know how it goes. I don't want to be that know-it-all jerk that tells the dealership how to fix cars but I also know that most techs don't know their ass from their elbow.

Just getting the update done was like pulling teeth. I explained to the service advisor that there's a TSB on the problem, and that it's a well documented issue and I'm just trying to save both his and my time. I wanted to give him the SSM # but he didn't want it because "he's already done a bunch of those". What does he write on the RO? "heat inop". So what does the tech do? Turns the heat on full blast, and obviously it was working because that's the only way it does work. He writes "no problem found". The SA then calls me on the phone and says "your car already has the latest updates, so it's a different problem" which I knew was BS. I actually had to drag the service advisor out to the car, and show him the problem. He then grabbed the tech, who saw what I was talking about. I mentioned the TSB and he was like "Oh there's a TSB? I didn't know that. Lemme go and reprogram it." The SA never even told the tech and nearly wasted my time, which turned out to be a waste of time anyway since the reflash borked the module.

I'm going to have to stress to him that I don't want him to replace any hard components and not to give it to a C-tech who's going to just throw parts at it. This is what I get for trying to be a normal person and buying a brand new car for the first time in my life.

^exact same thing happened to me at the first dealership...I'm only a consumer, I don't know how to research and diagnose an issue, so I couldn't possibly know what the problem was.
