I purchased a 2014 fiesta st from mossy ford in san diego last week. It has 19950 miles on it. Originally i paid 19500 for it but ive been asked to come in tomorrow because it turns out i wasnt actually approved for the loan. They were able to get me approved for 17.5k with a higer interest rate so my payments will stay the same but the dealer is gonna take 2k less for the car to save the deal. Over the last few days ive noticed a few things about the car that i am going to discuss with the dealer before i sign the new paperwork tomorrow. Heres a list of issues ive discovered. Feel free to tell me if im paranoid. Also any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
1. I hear a bump noise over the rear driver side tire over low speed bumps (shock tower?)
2. I requested a vehicle health report today and it said theres a sync recall
3. The vehicle health report also said that the brakes/suspension needs service but didnt give specifics.
4. I screwed up setting up the mykey thing and now i cant go over 80 or turn the esc off (my bad) i only have one key so hopefully the can turn this key back into an admin key
5. One night i had trouble putting the car in gear briefly
6. I feel like the paint is fading on the roof when i look at it from an angle
7. One rubber exhaust hanger is torn and the exhaust moves quite a bit (i brought this to the dealers attention and the have ordered a new one to install.)
8. The center console is loose (they also said they will fix this when the exhaust hanger comes in)
9. The insulation in the rear wheel well is coming loose a bit.
10. I can hear the brake pads on the rotor when i come to a stop.
After typing this im beginning to think i am crazy/paranoid but this is my first "new" car and i want to be sure im not getting a lemon. I need this car to be reliable as well as fun. Its still under factory warrany so they should fix this stuff right? Also i dont have any experience owning performance cars as i am a motorcycle guy so take what ive said with a grain of salt. Thanks for any feedback -alex

Welcome! Take a breath and relax. A lot of these items have been discussed on the various sub-forums, so familiarize yourself with the layout of the site. After reading your post, the only thing that concerns me is the issue with getting the car in gear. The paint, clunks, brake noise are things that you'll have to research. I too have a clunk over bumps, but mine sounds like it is coming from the passenger, vice driver's side. Enjoy the car, as it is about as sporty as they come in this price segment.

It sounds to me like the previous owner drove the car HARD. They were meant to be used but this one sounds ABUSED, and that's why its on the lot. You may be able to find a better one at the same price.

The sync recall just gives you more warranty. nothing to change or fix
It can be hard to get into first gear sometimes. put it into 2nd, then first. Other than that I haven't heard of it being hard to shift.
Sounds like the brakes are worn out.

First of all, [welcome]

I do tend to agree with Zormec. Any other FiSTs nearby or within traveling distance?
btw, how optioned out is the car for that price?

That's my question... the price seems a little high for the year and mileage, regardless of the options. Even $17,995 seems a bit rich. Under the circumstances, I'd exercise my consumer rights to drop it off and run away. There will be another car in better condition for less money from a more reputable seller.
Just my two cents, but I smell trouble.

Update regarding issues with '14 FiST in san diego

So yesterday i went to the dealer with my car to sign new paperwork and drop that 2000$ extended warranty. As i mentioned in my previous post the dealer was going to take 2k off of the sale price because 17.5k is all the bank would loan me on a used car. The original agreed upon price was 19.5k plus tax/title/license. For a 2014 base model st with 20k miles (i know, im a sucker!). They also sold me on the extended warranty and GAP for 2.6k more. For a grand total of 24k otd. Which i soon realized was way too much for the car. When i got there i told them i wanted to cancel the extended warranty and that i wouldnt sign new paperwork until everything on the car was fixed (a list off issues is included in my other post). They were mad! But i wouldnt budge. This was a rare second chance to negotiate a better deal for myself and i wasnt going to blow it. Long story short... I ended up walking away from the '14 FiST and into a brand new 2016 white FiST with black wheels, nav, and sunroof! Same otd price of 24k and same payment! Just no extended warranty this time around. I know i probably could have got a little better price on this car somewhere else but this dealership is 2 miles from my house which is convienient. And this is a better deal that i thought i was going to walk out of there with. Im very happy with my NEW car and i cant wait to get through the break in period so i can really enjoy the driving experience this little car brings to the table! Also im not crazy about the black wheels. Any body got a set of gunmetal wheels the would like to trade?

I've noticed this issue too. I'm relieved to hear you say that. I was starting to think I had messed up my gearbox.

Sweet deal! Did you get white or "platinum" pearl white?

You'll be happier in the new one vs. used one with a questionable past. Happy motoring!

Let me know if you change your mind and want to swap for some silver OEM wheels. I'm up in North County.
