Are BFGoodrich g-Force Sport Comp 2's no longer available in stock size?

I've been eyeing the g-Force Sport Comp 2 to replace my factory RE050 tires when the time is right. Today I woke up to a tire at 20 PSI and a screw almost in my sidewall. So now it's time to buy tires, but I can't seem to find the g-Force Sport Comp 2 in 205/40R17 anywhere.

Does anyone know if they'll come back?

Also, any current recommendations for 17" tires roughly close to stock diameter if I can't get the g-Force SC2? I know the question's been asked a hundred times but it seems like the 40R17 tire selection is getting worse by the day, and it used to be that the BFG g-Force was the one I saw recommended often. I'm just looking for Summer tires that are still relatively sticky but prioritize NVH and tread life since I have separate track tires.

Tire Rack told me I got the last 4 in their inventory. If you look online you may be able to find them elsewhere, like DiscountTireDirect, etc. I think I even saw them listed on Sears.com. Who knows what's actually in stock versus what's listed on a website, though.

I emailed BFGoodrich. It looks like 205/40R17 g-Force Sport Comp 2 tires are permanently discontinued.

Here was my email:

Hello,

My car has 205/40R17 tires (but 215 also works fine). I was eyeing the g-Force Sport COMP-2 tires to replace my factory tires when they wore out. Now I've reached that point, and it looks like the g-Force Sport COMP-2 tires are no longer available in my size? Is this size permanently discontinued, or is this only temporary?

Thanks, -Martin
And they responded:

We apologize but the tire has been discontinued and is no longer available. At BFGoodrich, we take what we learn through our passion for Ultra High Performance tires to ensure we're a leader in all things performance, which means we are constantly improving our existing products. We do not have a tire that we can recommend in the sizes requested.
So that sucks. For anyone on the hunt for these tires: Discount Tire had some in their South Carolina warehouse as of this morning. However my local Discount Tire would not let me purchase them because they have a lower load rating than our OEM tire. I suppose you could purchase the tires from them and then have them mounted somewhere else that won't complain about the load rating difference.

Frankly I was fed up with my tire search so I got some Potenza RE760's in OEM size for under $500 installed and including tax (after rebates) which are supposedly a little more comfortable than the BFGoodrich anyway. And I have a separate set of RE-71R shoes for autocross / track use.

I just love the look of the OEM wheels for daily driving! I use 16" Sparco Assetto Garas for track / autocross though: the selection is definitely better in 16".

I bought them from Direct on eBay. They will not sell them if you state their going on a Fist. I asked him what are they meant for an Ariel Atom?

Thanks BFG...
Would have been nice if TIRE RACK would have disclosed that information on their site, too.
And Ford sucks for giving us such a crappy bolt pattern.
Taxes suck!
Speed limits suck, more!

When I bought them last month when I loaded them into my cart the website there were limited quantities. And the guy with whom I spoke at Tire Rack cautioned me that the tires were out of production so to beware if I had a puncture or damage.

I ordered TR online vs. speaking with anyone in late January. And yes, I got my first puncture in 15 years just this month and couldn't locate a tire, thankfully it was in the tread. Discount Tire repaired it for free.
So are folks just going to 45 profile or switching brands?

I just wore out my BFG sc2's and can't replace them. It was a real nightmare to get these since tirerack would not sell them to me after I told them I drive a FiST(because of the load rating). :( IMO they were THE best do-it-all tire. Stiff sidewall for razor sharp, snappy handling/quick changing direction... decent tread life...great dry and wet traction. Dang it.

Tire Rack barely has anything in our stock size anymore. It's kind of a shame, but you have to go up to a 45 profile or go with a smaller rim to get a decent selection of good tires now. Not sure if it is just a fluctuation in their inventory or if manufacturers just aren't seeing the demand for our stock size. Probably not too many cars needing performance tires in a 17 inch wheel and as narrow as 205.
