Well, I almost ordered the part for $52.XX but they said Ford is backordered (as mentioned above) with no ETA.

"we could definitely help you out with getting the part, the bad new is the part is currently on back order with ford without a release date at the moment. "

I might just wait and let this all cool down. I usually don't plug my iPhone into the USB anyways so it would be a change in behavior. But I do like the idea of having the phone nav sync'd and using siri to run car nav.
The only place I found it so far where it's not listed as discontinued is OEMFordpart.com. It let me place the order and is "supposedly" coming from a Lincoln dealer in Georgia. We'll see.

Now for the important question... Does 2.2 finally let us update the background?

If I'm getting my car from the dealer Friday can I request they do this?

Good question. I'll know in 20 minutes and pass on the results. I'm just leaving work in 5-10.

As of right now I don't believe the update has officially been released by Ford so probably not.

QQ. The instructions say to open the extract the zip files on a Windows based computer. Does this actually matter? My thumb drive is already formatted FAT 32 and the files extracted using a Mac.

Some people have had luck but it's not 100% compatible. Try and see how it goes.

The only issue I ran into (non-nav) is the built-in macOS Archive Utility giving an "operation not permitted" on the .zip --had to use a free third-party tool to extract it https://itunes.apple.com/app/the-unarchiver/id425424353?mt=12&ls=1

the two zip files inside extracted just fine.

Funny thing about that. Didn't work with my girlfriend's Macbook pro. But I managed to do it with my Samsung Galaxy s7 active.

I sent him beer money. I wonder how long it will take Ford to get the update out?

I had an issue with the non-nav version. 2016 fist, v1.0 software. Freshly formatted flash drive, unzipped the first file to the root, started the car, plugged in the drive. Got the updating software message but after 45 minutes no change in status. Gave up and pulled the flash drive out and it didn't pop up any message at all. Next time I started the car I got an error about being out of space or incompatible version. Everything seems to be working as it was before attempting the update (yay, didn't accidentally brick my head unit,) settings still show as at v1.0. Planning on resetting to factory defaults in the morning and starting over unless someone has a better idea.
I had the same issue as you. Had it plugged in for an hour but it was just stuck at the "System is Updating" status. Tried two different USB sticks.

Please keep us updated on whether or not you're able to get it to work, at this point I'm inclined to just wait for the official release...

Rumor has it the official update is coming out the 20th. I'm just going to wait until then.

If it doesn't come out on the 20th, then I will try to do this myself on my 16 no-nav.

Ford IVT told me it would be out by the end of the year.
They told everyone that and it hasn't worked out well so far. Forget them, I just decided to do it myself and dismiss Ford slacking on something we should've had long ago.

You should do it now, it's awesome!
