Are you using a Windows or Mac computer to format the flash drive?

I used a 32gb flash drive.
But I plugged it in before starting the car. Don't know if that'll make a difference.

don't worry about it, as long as the flash drive is formatted FAT32 or exFAT (right click, click format in windows, run disk utility on macOS) it should be fine.
You will probably be fine. It seems to be the guys with the 32GB sticks having issues.
I figured as much but some systems are unable to map the blocks beyond x amount... I see others have been successful with 32 tho so I should be fine.

I'm almost to my car. Will know in 30 minutes. Can't believe the update is really here! I had given up hope. I saw all the posts but ignored them for days. I thought it was just more bitchin lol

Good dig OffTheWall! On this one we agree to agree ;)

I didn't wait...

...because I didn't know that I should. Does that make me brave?

I bet they would do it no problem as long as you pay them to do it. Does not affect warranty one bit.
Ahh, I didn't realize they would charge but of course they would. I just thought this was a software update like you get on your phone. I now realize it is much more than that. I'll probably give it a go this weekend.

They told everyone that and it hasn't worked out well so far. Forget them, I just decided to do it myself and dismiss Ford slacking on something we should've had long ago.

Thanks, good to know. I'm not sure if I'll use AA much because I don't generally plug my phone in, but I'm hoping Sync 3 v.2.2 fixes some issues I'm having with playing usb music in Sync like some silent 2-3 second gaps I have in a usb song sometimes, and occasionally not recognizing my usb flash drive at all.

The way they keep promising the update reminds me of when the airline keeps telling you that your delayed plane flight is really going to take off soon, and three hours later you're still sitting there.

I'm not sure this is a 100% sorted out version. I had a glitch today where it didn't have am, fm, or sirius. I restarted it and then it was back. It's not that big of deal since having Android Auto outweighs the glitch.

It is just a software update if all you need is Android Auto. Apple Car Play is what requires the ~$50 part. Dealers like to charge for everything, even software updates, because it does take time.

So I plugged in the thumb drive BEFORE starting the car and got nothing. Well, I thought I got nothing. When I pulled the drive out the system said it will resume setup once I plugged it back in. So I plugged it back lol

It's nice that the system works during the upgrade. Good job on Ford's part.

I used a 16Gig flash drive in fat32 and I got the storage issue but the part 1 loaded in my no nav car. I'll try a smaller flashdrive I suppose but I already have the first part loaded up. I don't think I can just undo it. I'll post what happens after. Oh and now none of my voice commands work e[???:)]

Just finished the Non NAV update on my 2016. Worked with no issues. Tried Maps and they worked. Thanks to everyone that helped make this happen.

So if maps and other apps work what's the new USB module for?

The usual Apple nonsense... Droid phones don't need it.

For some reason I was thinking only apple called there nav app by that lmao. Also, wasn't the USB part number different yesterday? Could've sworn it started with an H.

It was but Ford changed it.
Ok, thought so. Dropped off my car at Ford this morning and I was pretty sure I gave them the one with a H and they said they didn't have it. I'll try the new one when I go back. Thanks.

There's also the second part number meant for Lincolns. It's identical other than white backlighting instead of blue.

Not sure if this is posted yet but you have to plug the phone in to the USB slot to get Android auto started. I kept trying to get it to work on Bluetooth
