Just tuned to stage 3...doesn't feel any different

I was previously running stage 1 93 (Cobb ots map) I didn't really feel much of a difference going from stock to stage 1. I finally got my downpipe and IC on a week ago and tuned to stage 3 93 (Cobb ots) last night. I don't notice any difference at all. Are the gains really that minimal? Or maybe I just need a custom tune?

I don't know a ton about cars, so don't get super technical with me lol. My mechanic friend installs all my parts for me for free.

Ots are very vanilla. Custom will get more out of the car.

I did the same thing, went Cobb OTS stage 1 to 3. Stage 1 had a big change over stock, but going to stage 3 had almost no change. I was really disappointed, since I just spent a bunch of money on speed parts to get to stage 3.

I ordered a flash tune from Stratified, I couldn't be happier! Huge change from the Cobb tunes, car felt like it got a good bump in HP and torque.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something lol. I know there's quite a few good tunes out there that I've seen on the forum. I'll have to look into all of them and see which will be best.

One other weird thing I noticed. Usually when I fill my tank it says 430 miles to E, since the stage 3 flash, it now says 530 miles to E. Why is that?

The reflash resets all your mpg averages so the computer is going off a default number. Happens to me every time I reflash.

I had the same impression when I tried the Cobb Stage 2 tune. Felt like the engine was replaced by a marshmallow.

I finished installing the Cobb Stage 3 last Wednesday with their ots tune. I was also a bit underwhelmed, ordered a stratified tune for the car that day for pump gas (CA so just 91) and holy shit it really woke the car up, without a doubt the best 50 dollars I have spent on this car so far.

I dont know if it really makes any more power, but throttle response and drive ability are better across the board, my dad drove it and said it was a rocket ship compared to the last time he drove it (stage 1).

Thinking about ordering a second slot for an e30 tune since a station down the street from me sells boost juice

This is something I've hopelessly tried to explain to the fine folks at reddit/fiestaST. I went from stage 0 to stage 1 and thought 'hmm okay, thats a bit more fun', then went to stage 3 and thought 'did i forget to flash to stage 3???? what a waste!'. In any case, at least you're now prepped to go bigger turbo!

It needs a flash tune, from what I have read the Cobb OTS tunes are super conservative, they are painting with a broad brush as to not blow up anyone's car. Spend a couple of bucks on a Stratified or other flashtune, you will not be disappointed.

Another silly question, I don't hit anywhere near 20 boost psi until I'm slamming it on the on ramp to the freeway in 5th-6th gear. I assume this is normal? I normally only get 10 or less when in lower gears.

Not normal 3 and 4 gear wot pull should reach 22-23 psi. You may have a boost leak.

In my experience that is not normal.
I would see 20-24 psi in every gear.
You should be able to feel a good difference between stage 1 and stage 3.
It is possible you have a boost leak. Check the clamps on the pressurized plumbing.

Check the intercooler hose on your passenger side, that generally sees the most pressure, they are loose from the factory. Grab a flashlight and a size 7mm wrench or socket (I believe) and tighten that hose up a bit. Both of my house came almost completely off a year ago.

I bought the Depo charge kit with my Depo intercooler. I had my very talented mechanical friend do the install, but I will double check all the clamps

I usually only see 19-20 psi on Cobb stage 2 map. When I had a stratified flash tune it would regularly see 25psi.

Same here with crap boost psi. 19.70 highest I have hit one cobb stage 1 and 2. Just did an intercooler install all hoses tight. I think I might buy a set of t clamps though not sure of sizes needed. I have a flash tune from stratified but waiting till the dp is on. Too damn hot lately and im a bit afraid of snapping a dp stud. I daily the car 130 miles a day. 71k on the clock.

I found a boost leak at my stock BOV last week when the car wouldnt idle consistently coming off boost (no tune or performance parts). Got a warranty replacement while I overthink which BOV I want. Since youve taken your BOV off at least once to get the Boomba piece on, its worth a check.

Those stock diverter valves are trash I am surprised I have not heard of more of them failing. I probably wont touch mine until I go with a different turbo though. Looking at the MRX.
