Resin Knobs

After fiddling with 3d printed knob designs and coming to the conclusion that I do not like the feel of weighted knobs on the FiST (with stock shifter throw at least) I made up a polyester resin knob to match with my orange theme. As it turns out I quite enjoy making these things and ended up making another. And now theres a 3rd one curing currently with enough raw material coming in the mail to make another 20 lol. I figured I'd see what the FiST community thinks of these. They have threaded steel inserts molded into them to allow more torque to tighten them. If there's interest I may start throwing some in the classifieds but thought I would share here first

Those look cool.

What are you thinking price wise?

Thanks! I was thinking around 40$ is fair all around. Any more and it enters the price range of actual brands, and any less and my fingers start to cry from all the sanding lol. I'm using a cheap 3d printer to make the negatives for the molds so they come out out looking like a minecraft landscape

What Does the Underneath look like where it screws into the Shifter stud? Is the whole knob smooth ...like baby butt smooth?

Rough cast, though it is designed for factory reverse lockout. The threaded inserts are not through threaded so theres a good metal on metal lock for the thread engagement

Literally every color under the sun, I have a 20 pack of micha coloring lol

Edit - yea they are baby butt smooth. I wet sand from 220 all the way to 2000 and then polish with compound

Are they Sun-Heat resistant?
The deformation temperature of polyester resin is over 200 deg Celsius apparently(material science is above my head but that seems unrealistic). I used to live in Az so I tested a sample cast in my oven at 200f with no issues. Been rolling for a while out here in california and no issues with a black car in heat so far

I dont have a scale around but they are definitely lighter than oem. The cool thing is I can mold weights into them. Thats my next project.
That's why I love my knob from CJ Pony Parts ... because it's light. I'm interested in yours if you ever decided to start selling them. I like the design.[twothumb]

Yea lighter knobs just feel right on the FiSt, I appreciate your interest! I'm improving on the mold and making extras so there may be some for sale in the near future :)

Its been a busy few days with trial and error on casting these things but I think I'm starting to get a decent procedure going. By the weekend I'll have a perfectly smooth mold negative to cast much better molds. I've kind of gone into the deep end with these things lol. Here is the culmination of my efforts so far. 20190605_223052.jpg
