New Fiesta ST owner

Hi all, new member!

I just picked up a brand new Black Fiesta ST (base). I know people are curious about what we're paying for these so here you go.

MSRP: $22,590 (only option were the black wheels)

Out the Door Total: $18,774.79

I received an additional $1000 Military Appreciation Rebate from Ford so the price would have been closer to 19.8k. Purchased from Hoblit Ford in Colusa, CA (north of Sacramento). Just looking around the forums this seems to be a pretty good price (not amazing) for buying in California.

Now I have a 2018 Focus ST and a 2019 Fiesta ST. It's too soon to say which I prefer. The FoST is quite a bit faster but the FiST feels more nimble. We'll see

So "OTD" including sales tax? That's flippin' excellent! I got the same thing in a '17 in magnetic, black wheels only as well, for $18250 up in Oregon where we only have a 0.5% new car tax, and that was with $3000 rebate and $1250 dealer discount, which I found to be great. No Military Appreciation discount then asa Vet for me, that would have been great!

But welcome to the club! Now be prepared for your wallet to hate you with the mods that you won't be able to resist! LOL

And you called it, the FoST is faster overall, but the FiST is absolutely more nimble, no question. Just remember that e30 is the great equalizer, you will get massive torque and max out the tiny stock turbo with no mods needed other than the bracing and supporting mods like RMM, upper mount inserts, upgraded DV/BOV and symposer delete with a muffler swap for real sound. They both have a similar symposer type but the FoST is an active one that can be disabled while the FiST is fully passive, just a kazoo box that can leak under additional boost. At the VERY least, a Cobb AP with Stage 2 can be ran safely stock, otherwise I feel the FiST is just underpowered a bit, you need to unlock at least some of the natural torque available and it's a BLAST.

Yes that was total out the door. This is the second vehicle I have purchased from them. I actually bought this one sight unseen and they delivered it. It was the cheapest ST within a 100 mile radius. I got my loan from USAA, faxed them all the paperwork and then they had a couple guys drive it out to me. There is no haggling because they already have a pretty good dealer discount.

Their prices are low I think because they are literally out in the middle of no where.

Switching gears; first impressions FoST vs FiST!

FoST is faster by a considerable margin (bone stone except tint). It is also quieter (wind noise at 70+ and exhaust under throttle).

The FiST is definitely more nimble. It also has a great turning radius (one of the biggest FoST complaints). I can't definitively say it handles "better" but it certainly might.

Both a very fun cars. We haven't yet decided which will be a daily and which will be a weekender. This is kinda relative though since even the daily won't be driven much. We live on base and our cars usually only see 5-6k miles a year. However, which ever gets to live in the garage will also get the mods!!

You aren't hearing exhaust under throttle on the FiST, that's the fake sound symposer, on the FiST it's more audible since it's just hard wired literally to pass through the firewall all the time. When I deleted it and before I could swap to a glasspack muffler I could not hear anything, really, so there's that... Anyway, FoST does have fully independent rear suspension so it's going to ride a little better overall but hell yeah the FiST is nimble as all hell, most amazing electric steering ever and on an Econobox, LOL... but at least the FiST from '17+ have a better dialed in suspension, the first 3 years they were over dampened and after that they reduced the strut rate and made them better balanced with slightly thicker front sway and rear torsion beams to make up for that. The later ones respond to just springs better this way too... Anyway, welcome again, very cool to have both ST's, I only had my Hyundai Elantra back in the '90's when I was in the service and lived off base, and those early ones actually were ahead of it's time with a very decent suspension but only had 116 HP and 29 freeway with manual, LOL!

It isn't unpleasant at all; hardly noticeable until you are under hard throttle. Then it sounds pretty good. Most of the FoST guys delete it when they get exhaust though. In order to better hear the exhaust.

It's not fake. Some Vehicles actually use speakers now that's fake. The fiesta uses a sound diaphragm box that connects to tube going to the throttle body a hose runs off of it into the firewall. I don't considered it fake and I enjoy it. All that really matters is do you want it or not. I like it.

The FiST will out handle the FoST . It does not matter that the FoST has independent rear due to it being on the heavy side by 400lbs more. It does make a big difference. I have driven both and where the FoST feels unsure the FiST is in its element. Trust me if you were local you would see on one of our runs in the Los Angeles National Forest.

Ford seriously got the FiST right in a lot of ways. I picked the FiST over the FoST and I was coming from a E36 M3 which are famous for their handling.

Oh and congrats again on the pricing I worked the numbers and they pretty much lost money on your deal. My car with just the Black wheels would have been $17,100 before tax and lic. Based on discounting off my Recaros and paint. I also see it was the only one they had so it was definitely a lets get this out of here deal.

You can actually plug the hose from the inside to test what you prefer. Since I like to use my stock exhaust I keep mine because the car becomes too quiet with it completely plugged. I actually reduced the size of the hose so the sound volume that comes in is less intrusive and I like the result

Of course if you are tuned for higher boost at all it is prone to leaking, so it's more than just if you enjoy it or not. I originally thought it was OK, but it IS fake in the sense it is not just letting in natural sound, that box is like a kazoo, with a literally vibrating membrane to create sound that a car doesn't normally make. Anyway, once I realized I wanted more boost I wasn't about to overwork my turbo with it leaking for some fake sound when it's far easier to just swap to a slight louder muffler to hear the engine. Also, I like knowing that extra junk is out and not in the way of air flow or things I want to work on in an already fairly cramped engine compartment.

Over $2200 dealer discount is incredible, but that's what you see in states with higher sales taxes to keep sales up I suppose.

Wow thats interestig I wonder how they are gonna explain to the state that they taxed you on a discount. They are supposed to tax on the MSRP that saved you a good $700. Rebates in California do not qualify for being tax free.
