New Toyota Supra

How do we feel about the new Supra? Personally I'm a fan. I really like the way it's styled and I think it looks way better in person than in photos. I'm sure that BMW engine has some good tuning potential but even stock it seems like quite a fun ride. Yes its relatively competitively priced to a base entry level C8 corvette which will no doubt be a bit faster but for a bit more coin. The original supra was also expensive for what it was and in stock form didn't keep up with competitors. This is true to form for Supra brand.

I'm interested in what others think. Are you guys seeing these things around?

My local Toyota dealership had these two on the lot earlier this week. Both were marked as sold and the launch edition sold with a $9k dealer mark up while the Nitro Yellow sold for $5k mark up. From what I've seen both appear to be relatively low mark ups compared to what others have reported seeing.

I like the angle from the rear, the front doesn't do it for me. It's just another car I'll never own and see rarely, but will appreciate.
Agree, agree agree. Rear end is beautiful. Something is just a little off in the front, maybe its the soft-ish nose, or featureless hood. IDK but both of those are true of it's predecessor.

I'll never own one but can sure appreciate it for what it is.

I was looking at one - I have a really hard time rationalizing the purchase of BMW products because of the cost of maintenance. Luckily I was saved from having to make a decision by the distance between my butt and the top of my head. I am 6'3" and all torso (think penguin-build) and I could not sit comfortably in one. I'm curious to see what happens to the price of used C7's once the C8 is in circulation.

TBH, I've had a hard-on for a vette ever since the "RoadKill" crew built a body-less C4 corvette track-kart (street legal!) on an episode of their web series. That redneck dude on Youtube cleetus mcsomething built one too, though he just drags his which is kinda boring.

I guess, looking at the supra, it's more obvious why they wouldn't add power to the BRZ. If the BRZ had 300hp far fewer would be interested in the Supra. I'd still love to drive a BRZ with the H-6 out of a larger subie, I think that combination would be great.

I do not see this car ever becoming lust-worthy as the last gen was.

I actually like it. The 90's kid in me hates the fact that it's not the MK4, but it still seems like a capable car. Power and weight and design are all directly in line with the MK4 when it was released.

I think that these will become more popular over time.

I get that it has a BMW motor, but after having my M3 for so long, I don't really see the problem.

Did you test drive one or just try to sit in it?

I'm a small guy and I fit in the car great and really liked the cock pit, comfortable and driver oriented. No test drive though.

I think maybe your last line there is where I disconnect from the rest of the car world on this topic...I don't find the previous generation Supra to be "lust-worthy". Is it cool? Heck yeah and I respect it thoroughly. But I just don't see the obsession. Sure it can make a ton of power. But in stock form it's quite boring (reference I have a friend with one and I've driven it in autocross). I've also ridden in a 700hp Supra and it was great but it's still not some holy grail of cars. Now go ahead and burn me at the stake...lol

I feel that (and probably not the only one) this car, while possibly being nice to look at and fun to drive, is not worthy of the Supra badge. It took way too long to deliver, and nothing I've read or seen appears to be worth the wait. Also, it's comparatively silly to look into buying one when the C8 will likely smash it in every performance and price efficiency category.

To sit in the car at my preferred seat angle (almost 90 degrees) I had to sit with my head tilted slightly to the side, and there wasn't room for my shoulders.

It's yet to be seen how much faster the C8 will be. I'm looking forward to lap times of both cars.

What is worth noting is that performance numbers and lap times alone are not everything. From a performance standpoint I made a serious "downgrade" from a heavily modded WRX to my FiST. Alot of friends thought that was silly. But the FiST is every bit as fun to drive and feels quick and offered me some tangible benefits. Similiarly people will chose the Supra design despite slower around a track.

I think the Supra is likely to be a lot more fun to dive than the C8, while the C8 will be faster. I think the new Supra should've been brought in as a Celica with a 4 cylinder (2.0 turbo?), then a turbo-6 version called the Supra later. Supra is pretty much synonymous with "bonkers powerful grand touring car" and the new one.. is not that.

The Supra will be sold in other markets with a 2.0 L turbo engine. The B48 BMW engine specifically in two versions with 194hp/236 ft-lbs and 255hp/295ft-lbs.

Ive never head the Supra refered to a grand tourer. More of a sports car/sports coupe.

Yeah but I don't think it's headed to the US. They missed an opportunity to start with a celica and bring out the supra later. 2 liter turbo for the celica, 3.0-3.5 twin turbo for the supra. While I appreciate their dedication to creating a superb sports-car experience, thats really not what the later gens of supras really were.

I love the last-gen supras, they were basically the only street-driven cars at the strip that I really worried about in my GN :p

True, not coming to the US. A possible missed opportunity. Curious how that will be priced and what's it's tuneability will be.
