Any Successful Wi-Fi Update of Sync 3 in the last year?

Or ever? About a year ago, after a failed auto update, my system quit working properly. Neither me nor the dealer was able to update it with a USB. Eventually I got a new APIM on warranty, and the dealer updated the Sync 3 to version 3.0. I didn't reconnect the system to Wi-Fi after that. I thought the failed update bricked the system, the dealer thought it exposed an existing defect in the system, which was somewhat of a chicken-and-egg question. Because of that, I've been reluctant to turn Wi-Fi back on and connect the system to it. I'm guessing the chances of a successful Wi-Fi update are about the same as those of capturing Bigfoot.
However, eventually I will need to update again, and I'm just wondering whether it would make any sense to turn it back on and connect it to my house Wi-Fi see if they've actually figured out how to get the auto updating to work. It was a nice idea, but the execution was a miserable failure.
My car was new 8/16, I initially had it connected to Wi-Fi and set to auto update over Wi-Fi. In the first year, it started the process a couple times. It would get up to about 30% on a progress bar over a couple days, and then never finish. Finally, after another failed auto update, I got an error message that said something like bad installation file. At that point my voice recognition quit working, and I started the process described above that eventually led to the warranty replacement of the Sync 3 module, the APIM.

Mine's a 2017, have never seen wifi update work. I think it just doesn't have enough storage (without nav) to do the update OTA.

Mine seemingly did it all by itself via WiFi - and I had converted my MY2015 to Sync 3. I don't see any complelling reasons for any of the updates - it's not like Tesla where you gain better/more hardware functionality by OTA updates. I have difficulty discerning what the latest version has to offer other than some "performance improvement". Given the common frustration, I'd not bother.

Yep, my '17 has updated over WiFi before, took a few days as it's not near my router that often, I think I left it with the ignition on but all lights and fans off and it finally went through... however, it is indeed better to keep looking on here for 2 part USB updates whenever a major new release comes out. I think they are very important as each one seems to have significant stability improvements and bug fixes.

16 - WiFi update attempted with 1.0. That failed. USB updated succeeded, but I had to plan around an extended drive and following the instructions *precisely* or risk bricking it. Tried to USB update from 2.2 to 3.0 and that failed. After reading more than a few horror stories I decided not go forward.

The newer 2 part USB updates work fine, I've got one for non-nav '16+ if you want it, works great, just send me a PM with your email...

when the last sync 3 update came out to i waited around for a month or 2 trying to update over wifi and the system was never able to find an available update whenever i checked for update over wifi. i chatted with a ford rep who told me that the check for update button is only there for looks and will not actually install a software update. the usb option took without issue. not sure the truth behind what the rep said, but since then i don’t even bother to check for updates

Hey Dan, I've got a thumb drive and tried getting the update from the owner's website, but never received anything. Not sure what the issue was, as I was signed in and all that. Do you think you could help me out? Bought my 17 in March of last year and it's never been updated. Lately been losing connectivity using Pandora :( Might be a phone/blutooth issue, but not sure really. Thanks:)

It's always good to update so yeah, PM me your email and I can send you the update, as long as you don't have factory nav.

That's very interesting, I just got a much more powerful router and was thinking about hooking the car back up to Wi-Fi to see if it downloaded any updates. I had disconnected it from Wi-Fi for a long time after a failed update may have messed up my APIM.

I used to watch this show as a kid. It was high school kids doing a local show. There's a clean Capri in this video. It's probably rusted to dust by now, but it's pretty cool.
