Roll bar / Cage

I've been wanting to do hill-climbs and go to the track, but my Fiancé and I have been discussing me getting a cage for my Fiesta on the off-chance something bad happens.
I found autopower & vudu, but was wondering if we had other options. Ideally I'd like a 6-7 point cage, but from the few quotes I've seen, it's like $3000 for a chromoly welded in 6 point installed. I know that'd be a lot safer, but that's quite a bit of money.

Does anyone know anything about the Vudu bolt in option? They had a video of a car rolling down below and it looked like it held up very well.

Keep shopping around, you can likely get a half-cage done for a better price. The Vudu is over $1k landed and at the end of the day it's still bolted in. If that is your price point then you will probably be fine - otherwise stretch a bit and look for a proper weld-in half cage.

Wonder if I could just have the Vudu welded in rather than bolting it in, and add to it later? Or if the Autopower is a better option and just finding someone to weld it in for me.

Wonder why he didn't just weld the bar to the chassis, rather than adding a plate and bolting it? I guess being able to take it out later if you resell the car?

If you drive your FiST on the street be sure to go with a 4-point and don't ever stick someone in the back seat. A 6-point will crack your skull in a simple fender-bender and a 4-point will scramble your rear passengers'.

Don't have to worry about a back seat, I don't have it in anyways 😂

I haven't seen how much clearance is left with a 6 point for headroom, kinda curious about that

Because I didn’t want to weld it in. It’s more convenient for me this way. Feel free to weld yours in if you want. Either way it’s safe.

Edit: I didn’t want a six point because my car is a street car as well. I don’t want to wear a helmet on the street.

No fully caged car is safe without a helmet but I’m sure you know that. Technically you should be wearing a HANS if you’re harnessed as well. I use my OEM belt on the street. If you’re building track/race car just rip that shit out and have a custom cage built or buy one from Autopower. The fitment of Autopower is absolutely perfect. Don’t forget to remove the airbags as well otherwise they will deploy against the cage. I pulled all of my driver airbags and installed resistors so the passenger bags still work.

That’s about what I paid for the Autopower after powder coating. The guy that helped me install it has custom built cages for a decade. He said he couldn’t have made it fit any tighter than the Autopower. Adding triangulation would be fairly simple if needed. I’m confident the bar I have is plenty strong for a multi rollover crash. The sleeves for the diagonal brace are burley. They also threw in the plates we welded to the car. I was apprehensive but man it is perfect. It isn’t light though. It’s DOM.

That's an interesting point. One of my driving factors behind custom is that I assumed that a custom cage would fit tighter than the autopower. Also keep in mind I'll be running without a headliner and rear plastics. Door cards will stay. Any thoughts?

Yeah if you’re running without a headliner and door cards you can go a bit taller/wider. The Autopower sits flush with the headliner in a sunroof car like I have. The arm rests on the rear doors come really close to the main hoop. You won’t have a ton of room but there’s definitely more without the full interior.

How much of a pain was it to install? Do you have a link to the one you bought?

And yeah, I hear ya on the helmet and Hans, I would use the OEM belt on the street as well.
As much as I want to rip it apart and throw a full cage in, I don't ever want it to not be a daily anymore. It's too fun lol.

I bought the “Race Roll Bar with Options”. My diagonal and harness braces are welded on but the rear bars are sleeved, notched and bolted to the main hoop.

With the exception of drilling the plates, installation was easy. I removed both front seats, rear seats and console then folded the carpet towards the front to give me plenty of room.

Direct is cheapest and the guy that answers the phone is extremely helpful. Make sure you ask for additional floor plates. It’ll save a ton of fab time.

Nope. Just plan on painting it. I wouldn’t have them paint it because it’ll get chipped during shipping. It’s just shrink wrapped to a pallet. Brad is the guy who usually answers. He will help with every question and get you setup with exactly what you want.

If your going to weld it, why dont you just get their weld in full/half cage that comes pre cut? I'm getting ready to start cutting mine out that has been welded in. Definitely not looking forward to THAT. lol
