I agree, and I still feel like it MIGHT be FWD... but I also think the previous RS models are basically pushing the absolute limits of what's safe/streetable on a stock vehicle with power delivery to the front wheels. I mean even BMW has conceded that future M cars will likely have AWD

Considering how much power the Focus ST can put to the ground with aftermarket parts, Ford needs to make this an AWD to compete in the STi and R niche.

First of all, forget about FWD: the Focus RS is getting a brand-new AWD system, a performance-oriented version that should skew towards a 50-50 front/rear bias instead of the front-oriented system currently available on Escapes and the like. Later it will spread to other Ford and Lincoln products.

Second, it'll get a high-output 2.3-liter EcoBoost that we're hearing will exceed the output of the EcoBoost Mustang, at 310 hp. That should put it in the 325-350 hp range. If you're breathing heavily at this point, we don't blame you.

Alright, I was doing a pricing analysis to see where I think the Focus RS might be priced. Here are some bars showing base price, and fully optioned (MSRP including destination) for all the Ford performance vehicles, and other vehicles I think are competitors or possible cross shop options for someone buying a Focus RS.



My guess is $28k to $29k starting price, and fully optioned up to $36k... This would make it an STI killer, and a really cheap EVO replacement. I can't imagine Ford wouldn't provide huge value for the money, like they already do with the Mustang and the STs. Even if it's priced at $30-$34k I think it will be a pretty good buy.

We'll see what the Golf R comes priced at, it should be priced pretty high based on the last time they made a Golf R.

Disclaimer: all MSRP prices taken from Truecar.com ... "fully optioned" is a rough estimate of what I think all options are, some manufacturers include DOZENS of options for interior and exterior so I stuck mainly to the big options that you would likely see in the dealership. Also some of the luxury cars go way north of $50k so they go off the chart... also I just realized the AMG is off the chart, it starts just above 50k.

Fyi msrp on a Golf R with DSG (only trans in 2015 my) is 39,090 for a fully loaded model with DCC + Nav.
Curb weight is 3340ish
