USB use

I formatted a 2gb usb stick and added a few music folders to test it in the Fiesta. Plug it in and Sync 3 does not see it. I have a '19 Fiesta. I'm trying to go around my iPod which Sync 3 recognizes and plays but it just indexes to infinity. Once it did finish and show the playlists so know it can do it but that was the one and only time it did. It took about 10 minutes due to the size of the iPod drive. I understand that apple no longer supports this device but at least it does work minus the playlist/index part but I would like it if it worked fully.

I have a larger USB scan-disk on order but being stuck with Sync 3 not recognizing the drive puts the kibosh on its use in the car as a workaround but at least I can use it as a backup storage for my music files so all good there.

Anyone have any insight into these two issues? Many thanks....

Did you format your USB stick to exFAT? I believe that is the format that is required for Sync 3, although I do have FAT32 stuck in the back of my mind as the required format. If you formatted your USB drive to something else, I would try those two and see if the system will then recognized it.
I have about eight gigs of music on a 16 gig USB drive that I leave plugged into my car all the time, except when I bring it into the house to update the music from my desktop computer, and it works great.

Edit, just found this in the Sync 3 manual-
Supported Media Players, Formats
and Metadata Information
The system is capable of hosting nearly
any digital media player, including iPod,
iPhone, and most USB drives.
Supported audio formats include MP3,
WMA, WAV, AAC, and FLAC.
Supported audio file extensions include
MP3, WMA, WAV, M4A, M4B, AAC, and
FLAC.
Supported USB file systems include: FAT,
exFAT, and NTFS.

I reformatted to exFAT and nada. I don't see an USB selection in the source menu. Maybe it needs a master reset. Thanks for your help here. I'm going to try the reset and see if it works. You are using the USB exactly the way I want to use it. Plug it in and leave it until I have some new material for it.

Question: Does yours index fairly quickly?

Yes it does, when I plugged in the new USB drive for the first time, I think it indexed the roughly 1,000 songs in about 10 minutes. When I plug it back in after adding a couple new songs, it indexes in just a minute or two.
You could also try using a different USB drive if you have another one, sometimes there's just a bad one. I'm using a Kingston Data Traveler SE9 G2 just FYI, it's at least a couple years old.

No go. Its not an option to select. Oh well...i have car play and the ipod. It just bugs me...

I’ll check the disk in my other car and format another disk to see if that works. It works else wise I wouldn’t be able to copy to it. We shall see...

Yeah, stuff like that is frustrating. You might try calling Ford customer service, they have an option for issues like Sync 3. When I first got the car in 2016 I called them a couple times and they were pretty helpful, more recently I tried for something and I was less impressed.

They keep repeating: Note: These SYNC 3 features are device-dependent.

Try another drive.

If you have a name-brand USB stick that hides a partition with proprietary software to do whatever it is the manufacturer thought they were enhancing, that may be getting in the way of the Sync 3 reading it.

Tried two other USB sticks and Viola! The USB jumped up like Jack-n-da-box! Now, when my Scandisk arrives, I can copy all my music files to it and have my cake.

Thanks, fellas...appreciate it mucho!

I used exFAT just to be on the safe side. I'll try FAT32 as well. These are two small no-name USB sticks for testing so its easy. I'll report back.

It's really handy having your music on a USB drive when it works well, because then you can use the voice recognition button to call out songs. I like to make a playlist, load up my faithful old doggy copilot, and drive around in the country listening to music without having to look at the screen or mess with a phone.

Never tried it. It's a nice feature while driving, but my commute is 18 min.
I prefer to listen to whole album/cd's though. Amazon prime is good. I use the playlists and lyrics for songs I have to learn. The autoplay feature is great too. When a list is finished, it plays similar music to that list. The My Discovery Mix is hit or miss, but good. It's new every Monday.

It appears exFAT is the only choice for some drives and is in fact a better solution in terms of read/write of small files. I was able to create a playlist and import it to the stick and that works. I just reformatted an old school Iomega USB drive to exFAT for kicks to see if it works. I'll post that up too.

Nice pic of the pooch! I'll post mine up. He is miniature grey poodle that is a girl catcher! No training required either. He's a natural hunter. My boy.

Iomega? Throwback! Let's just break out the zip or jazz drive while we're at it. The thousands of dollars I spent on computer gear.....worse than a car. I always get more mileage out of a car. I haven't been an early adopter in well over a decade. Not worth it.

I did not know that, I'll have to try that out sometime.
