Ok, I think it's time to upgrade the FMIC.

4th gear WOT into 5th. Over 20* increase, even with a whole lot of air hitting it at those speeds. Yikes.

Currently looking at Airtec or ATP.

I shifted at 5600 rpm but yea, I don't make those speeds a habit. Just doing a quick test for thermal loading. Test successful.

ATP is nice and it uses a Garrett core which I'm sure would perform well. The ST specific one is $700 but if you get the generic one with generic end caps it's only $471

The width should be ok, the Mishimoto I'm using is 29.5" including end tanks.

ATP just emailed me back and said the size was 28" end to end including the end caps. I asked for the core size. Ill edit this post wen they reply (try not to hijack the thread too much :) )

Edit: Core is 18" on the non ST specific one, so a smaller core.

Yea I would be into that if I still worked at a shop and had access to fabrication tools. These days I like just unpacking something and bolting it up.

I don't believe there's any difference mechanically in the intake system.
My concern is the bumper, they are different for USDM beneath the cover itself.

Oh, that makes sense. As far as I can tell the core are identical in all dimensions except for thickness.

The turbo is pretty maxed from the factory. Are you seeing issues with air chopping? Gd work so far.

Well hit my first road block and "ah ha!" moment all in one in continuing to learn the ECU tonight.

I've been having an issue where I keep hitting a ignition timing ceiling and it wouldn't let me run more ignition timing in the midrange and through the top. Well I figure it out. The car ended up running more timing through the midrange and through the top which remarkably gave me another 14whp/14wtq from 4200rpm to 6000rpm. It felt really really strong. That's the good news.

The bad news is now it's running more ignition timing then I would like to run without putting the car on a real dyno to find MBT. Obviously it made more power so I'm not past MBT but I also hate not know what MBT is so I'm going to dial it back until I can get it on a real dyno.

The owner of the dyno I use is out of town for now so I'll have to wait until he gets back in town to get it strapped down and find MBT.

The other good news is I'm really finding my way around the ECU more and more every day. :) It's really very cool and powerful compared to what I am used to. Still really excited about it all.

I'm not really pushing the turbo much past Cobb Stage 1 levels. In fact I've barely touched the boost compared to COBB stage 1. The turbo is super small. I'm sure I could get it up to 300wtq with another pound of boost or so but I don't want to over drive it any more with the stock FMIC and exhaust on the car.

Last thing I need is a turbine stuck in the cat. ;)

So I've been learning the ECU. Using COBB Accessport with Race Tuner software.

It's very complex. Very very, VERY. Still a bunch to learn and figure out but so far the car is making pretty good gains but I think I might have it tapped out 100% stock. Pushing it more than this made it very cranky and inconsistent so I'll probably pull it back a little until I upgrade the FMIC and get some more flow modifications.

Why did you dyno it in third gear? 4th is closest to 1:1. Just wondering

Probably because of the speed he would be going on the street with a 4th gear pull.
