The next iteration of the spacious Honda Jazz (called as Fit in some international markets) is in advanced stages of development and is set to break cover at the Tokyo Motor Show this October. An image of what is claimed to be the next generation Honda Jazz Type R has emerged online, thanks to Headlight Mag.

The design takes a bit of getting used to. Honda has ditched the well received typical family look in favor for a theme that evokes nostalgia. The overall shape and elements seem to have a connection with the second gen model rather than the third generation one it is set to replace.

As the image suggests, the 2020 Honda Jazz will receive a performance oriented Type R variant. To be slotted below the popular Civic Type R, the upcoming Japanese hot hatch will be pitted against the likes of VW Golf R in international markets.

If we minus the bold black embellishments on the grille, red tinted badge, front and side body kit, and large alloy wheels, we get an understated hatchback with neat looking LED infused headlamp, short nose, a steeply raked A-pillar and a shrunken MPV silhouette.

It is reasonable to expect the new Jazz to receive all-new interior with new materials, dashboard layout and additional features. If there is one department where the Jazz wins hands down, it is the interior space and packaging. We are certain Honda will not do anything to take that appeal away from the Jazz.

Headlight Mag claims that the next generation Honda Jazz Type R will be equipped with a 1.5-liter petrol engine (most likely to be a turbocharged unit) which produces 220 PS and 250 Nm of torque. Honda seems to have serious intentions with its hot hatch.

As far as India is concerned, the Jazz has been struggling to keep pace with segment leaders Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20 but we reckon the premium hatchback segment is still big enough to keep the automaker interested.

If launched in India, the 2020 Honda Jazz will be continuing with its current engine lineup which includes a 1.2-liter i-VTEC petrol engine and a 1.5-liter i-DTEC oil burner (of course in BS-VI guise).

I used to know this chick with a retarded little pug dog, it would stick its face out of the car window and smile with its jowls flopping in the breeze. Looked exactly like that fit. Why does Honda keep making ass ugly cars?

I'm genuinely confused as to why Honda never sold the FIT with the turbo 1.5 from the Civic... I think it would sold well.

I probably would have picked a turbo Fit over a FiST if it were available at the time.

Nah, the crosstour died several years ago.
That was an ugly booger. My wife's civic is a nice car, and I feel that Honda makes quality, but it's just bland. Kind of like iPhones.

Honda and Acura used to make really nice sport sedans, but they have really gotten away from that for the most part. The last Acura that I liked was the RSX. The Civic SI is okay, but I like our car a lot more. The Civic type-r looks like a lot of fun to drive, but it's just too crazy looking for me.

I wish they would legit get into the truck game and make a real contender with the Ranger and Tacoma.

My wife has a 2019 Ridgeline. I like it way better than the Ranger and *way* better than the Tacoma. Faster, quieter, and almost as luxurious as the 2013 MDX it replaced.

Is it as rugged so to speak? That's my concern.

It's a Honda, so I expect that it'll last forever, eat brakes, and require a semi-annual change of the anti-sway bar links. It has IRS instead of a live axel and coil springs all around, if that means anything. Payload and towing is slightly less than the body-on-frame trucks. I don't have any doubt that it will be more reliable than a Ranger (and I'm a Ford guy at heart) and at least as reliable as a Tacoma over the long term.

It definitely looks like a girl's truck (apologies to any ladies out there).

I actually like the Honda Ridgeline. I wouldn't mind having one. Me nor the Wife want a truck as our primary vehicle, and I definitely can't afford a Honda Ridgeline just to use occasionally. She likes the Ford raptor but we definitely cannot afford that. We have a fairly decent household income I just don't think car payments should consume your life.

It's a unibody truck? I'm sure it rides good, fits a good niche.

I may go with a Subaru Crosstrek when it's time to move on from the FiST. I like those alot, AKA, I'll probably inherit the wife's civic and she will have the crosstrek.

Love my little car, just sold the tahoe. I know we will outgrow it, eventually.

Yep, it's build on the MDX/Passport platform - great ride, esp. with the taller profile truck-ish tires.

As my FiST becomes more track-day oriented I'm thinking about getting rid of my daily F-150 for a Civic SI. I hate working on them, but Honda's are stone reliable and the SI isn't a bad commute car.
