All Keys Lost

When we bought the 2016 Fiesta ST, it only came with one key. That was three weeks ago. Since then, the car was out of commission for a week replacing the clutch, flywheel, and slave cylinder. First full week driving it, and we wanted a spare key. So, we ordered two on Amazon. Using ForScan to program new keys, we got one programmed and working. Onto the next, it said it had already been programmed. So, the person doing this, while not thinking, decided to hit “erase all keys and start over.” Now we have a close friends Autel programming device and we can’t even get the car in the “Run” or “Accessory” position where you need to be to program a new key. Any tips on helping us out? There has to be a way to program a key to the car if you lose them all, right?

Have you already tried putting the physical key right up against the little flat spot on the steering column? That’s supposed to use the physical immobilizer chip inside the key instead of the wireless key function.

Also given that the car was sitting a long time and the battery might be weak, I’d try hooking up a battery charger to the car and trying again (and if it works consider replacing the battery). You should at least be able to turn the car into accessory and hook up to the OBD port without the key.

(And yes, people do steal modern cars that way)

We have tried the key near the ignition. The OBD port works and some features with the scanner/programmer work fine, but things like programming keys can only be done in the accessory position. The physical immobilizer doesn’t work because the keys have been completely removed from the cars memory, so it doesn’t pair whatsoever. I think next route may be locksmith. Some Autel machines do work for this and there are videos, but the one available to us is much older and doesn’t have a way to do “all keys lost” on a car without a physical key to at least get the car in the “run” position. Thanks for the help

There’s evidently some “initialization” routine to be done to the PATS module when there are no keys programmed before you can add a new key. See if this link is helpful? May or may not be applicable to a Fiesta

Depending on when your car was made, apparently starting some late 2016 models, you may need to tow your car to the dealer (info in that post above). Locksmith may or may not be able to do it

This does help a lot, but I think we’re gonna need to go to a dealer or locksmith. ForScan cannot access anything without the ignition in the “on” position. These cars being push start, they’re doesn’t seem to be a work around to get the car into the run position. Still trying to get this to work, anything helps
