Any Experience with Short Shift Kit and Extension?

I would like to have the shift knob a little higher to get it closer to the steering wheel, it seems to be where my hand wants to end up naturally. It seems like an extender with a short shift kit would keep the throws short(ish) while also getting the shift knob where I would like it. Does anyone have experience with a setup like this that could provide some feedback?
