Black Rubber Window Trim

Guys,

The black rubber that goes around your windows on the outside what you do you treat it with. I can wash and wax car and everything looks great but that rubber (not sure what it is called) it will get white hazy or even like a rainbowish color on it. Same rubber around the windshield. If you use something like a tire shine it comes off first rain or just sitting out in the sun so that isn't a good fix. And figure since I am new to the car you guys have already tried every product out there and have a good solution.

It's actually just vinyl sticker. It gets weathered from sun exposure. Many had problems with it just looking sad. I'm in the same boat.

I would try mother's VLR spray. It cleans and lightly conditions vinyl, leather and rubber. It definitely helps and it doesn't dry greasy.

Have the same rainbowing/blotchy effect. Grabbed Cerakote branded wipes for black plastics and trim. Holding off on applying as car will be going in for ceramic coating in the coming weeks. Figured that would clean it up as well.

Used it on my focus window trim and wiper cowl so far to good effect.

Just take that stuff off of there for factory paint underneath 👌 Cheap, easy and satisfactory look. Just a suggestion. If you decide to go that route use a heat gun or blow dryer... heat them up and peel off with tweezers/fingernails/razor blade. Take your time with it. Will take about 2hrs. Cut the vinyl behind the rubber jam with a razor blade for clean finish. Either way, you’ll need to remove them to rewrap regardless. I would suggest taking them off first... see what you think, then choose to buy new wrap or not. You don’t need to buy vehicle specific overpriced “trim pieces” either. You can just buy some vinyl in whatever color you want and wrap + trim yourself. Hope that helps.

I wouldn’t quite go terrible, but I don’t like it for sure. When the dealer I bought my car from got it, it had some of those damn wind deflectors on that they tried to remove and peeled parts of the vinyl off. I haven’t committed to buying replacements yet but I think I will eventually.

I think that looks rad! But that’s just my opinion. Was your paint orange peel or scuffed under it at all?

Not Orange peeled, nor scuffed, BUT peeling the vinyl off, they peeled off a couple real small chips. I think they were trying to rush the job. But overall, the paint condition is basically as good as the rest of the car

Yup, I actually got inspiration from yours. Got tired of the weathered look on the vinyl so I removed. Also, heat gun works or just peel off under the sun which is what I did since it was over 90 degrees. It was easy to remove the vinyl when it was warm and sitting under the sun.
