I’ve been chasing a clunking noise on my 2017 Fiesta ST (25,000 km) for a while now and can’t seem to figure it out.

It started right after I did a bunch of hill starts when I was practising for my licence test. Here’s what I’ve done so far:

Replaced all three engine mounts (left, right, and torque mount) when i replaced the torque mount i had a fair improvement where around 50% of the clunks sound went away.

Noticeable clunk every time I shift from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, and faintly 3rd to 4th

When I press the clutch, move the shifter from 1st to N i get a clunk Then N to 2nd clunk again I can also get the same clunk if I just tap the throttle in 1st/2nd (on-off throttle).

If I shift really really slowly i wont get a clunk noise.

if anyone knows what it is please let me know 😭

This really sounds like a dual mass flywheel issue indeed, most likely the springs in the dual mass flywheel are either worn, or broken. If you press the clutch and rev a couple times and you still hear clunking or rattling i'm very certain it is the dual mass flywheel

Mine did this also. check the exhaust mount after the down pipe. If broken, it allows the exhaust pipe to hit floor when you tapp the gas.

Just as an aside you know you don't have to worry about hill starts. The Fiesta ST has an automatic hill hold feature. No need for high revs/handbrake, jumping off the clutch etc. Just a normal start.
