I owned a station for a bit. LOL
And worked in them for a lot longer.
My dad owned a few petrol stations in England a while back. In some nationwide competition for the best gas stations in the country, he placed second. First prize was a trip on the Concorde when it was flying. Still, second place in a whole country is pretty great! Interesting to see so many people with experience at gas stations.

I did lots of training of electrictronics techs for Mobil, Arco and Exxon pipelines. The great majority of pipelines are up to 3 feet or larger in diameter. All grades of gas are transported and in the pipeline at one time. The "interface" is the sections where the two gas products mix is always dumped to the 87 octane storage tanks so 87 gets mixed with 91 and 93. 87 is almost alway higher octane than 87. Remember the octane number is a minimum. The underground tanks in a gas station never have a crossover pipe, if they get water in a tank they want zero chance of cross contamination or the ability for a shady station mixing their 87 into a 91 or 93 tank to increase profit. In an emergency situation they want to sell all they can get so they will fill all tanks to the max. Any car can run 93 or 91, not so with 87. 87 will alway sell out first in an emergency being the cheapest, followed by 91 then 93. Once power is lost the tanks can be half full but you can't get the gas out and the very few stations that have above ground tanks may still be able to provide gas manually. What I love is all the people that buy portable generators or have one permanently installed only to learn they don't work well under water! After Katrina you could see many, many waterlogged generator at the dump. The words "hunker down and ride it out" is like saying I want to die.........you know it's coming......get the eff out fools.

From recent models looks like its going to miss Florida we will definitely get ran maybe some gust's, but it seems as though Dorian is taking an express route to South Carolina.

Until it's there you don't rest easy. It's called the cone of uncertainty for a reason and if you're within that cone you still watch it like it has a bullseye on you.

If the high ridge to the north, what is preventing Dorian from turning that direction, holds for longer than the models anticipate it's a different situation for Florida. Some are calling for WSW wobbles, some models still have it going right through.

While model accuracy has increased dramatically in the last twenty years that really only applies to 3-5 days out. 1-2 days is still wildly unpredictable. Just remember that they run on a consensus and to keep informed and prepared.

From someone who went through Gloria, Andrew, Charley, Frances, Jeanne, Katrina, Wilma with sides of Dennis and Ivan.
