Exterior Keyless Entry Button

I bought my car last August and in Sep/Oct my keyless entry button stopped working. I just took the car to the dealer, since it was in storage for winter and Covid, and they have to replace the whole door handle and paint it. Was Ford that stupid to make that little black button not replaceable? Is this button breaking a common problem?

From a perusal of the parts diagram, it appears the button does not come separately from the handle.

I looked through the diagram also, just seems stupid to me. $300 part plus painting and labor, for a $1 button. I guess Ford wanted to make money off this deal, until it breaks under warranty.
